Description 6 x 4 on Bristol

I used a reference image of a web of a spider who had ingested a fly exposed to marijuana. > > > [link] < < <

This was done as a donation to my good friends at Vintage Vinyl in Regina who are having a fundraiser, as they are experiencing problems with corrupt government policies sadly.

First off, great title.

This is a very enjoyable image. I like the naturalistic rendering of the web and how it contrast with the vibrant and strangely psychedelic colors.

My only concern is a minor one. Some of the larger areas of orange and yellow on are a bit distracting. I know it is important to have "breathing" areas for the viewer to rest their eyes in any work of art. However, it is important that the eye doesn't get stuck in the composition. In particular, the large V-shaped area at the top and the shape jutting out from the lower left-hand side of the image seem to attract too much attention. Perhaps if those areas were broken up with a little more webbing; not too much though.

Regardless, I feel that this image has a great balance between intricacy and clarity that makes it very eye-catching.

Hey thanks so much for the critique! I am thinking of doing some more of spiders under the influence of various drugs as the internet is full of stock references of them, I agree with you that the larger areas are fairly distracting, however I really just wanted to stay true to the work of the spider and that is pretty much exactly how it made its web.

Again thanks for taking the time to write this for my drawing!

I once peeped a spiders web whilst wiggling hard in a drug haze and that shit was just spiffing. Like crazy organic train tracks in the morning light. So I can dig this goodness real deep.

Oh yes I have as well, its absolutely amazing that right when they are born without any sort of training they just crawl into a corner somewhere and start to make this amazing web! Blows my mind so hard, sometimes you need to experience some things to really dig deep in that natural goodness.
