One of my favorite photographers on deviantArt took a lovely picture of a cat, and I absolutely had to draw it. The original composition is entitled "Lighting My Way" and hosts two cats -- I chose to draw the one on the left (follow the link above).
All of this was done with a 3B Staedtler pencil and a 6B Tombow pencil. Unfortunately, the scanner ruined the contrast somewhat. Darkening the image up in Photoshop helped a little, but the original is better. The amount of time it took to compose the drawing was... maybe forty-five minutes to an hour, give or take. It was sketched for pleasure and because I wanted to have another composition to add to my portfolio.

There is something about those dark patches of fur below the eye that really demand my attention. The way you drew the fur just kind of folding into and over itself is absolutely gorgeous, and so natural. I've probably said this a million times but your attention to detail with these drawings is really something to behold. When you draw fur it never looks like pencil strokes - it actually looks lifelike and furry, which is something I haven't quite accomplished yet.
Amazing job. This will look lovely in your portfolio! 8D

Awww. Thank you so much, red. I feel bad that I don't comment on a lot of your pieces. All of my deviantArt messages and notices got so backed up that I just had to delete a bunch of them, but I intend to go through the galleries of the folks I follow and see what they've cooked up lately. This even looks better than the original photo
but there is something wrong with the whiskers....they are supposed to go down, not up

Yeah. I intentionally made the whiskers go up. It was a personal choice. I thought it would make the overall composition more interesting.
