From the vault...Magik and her SoulSword.This is my favorite of her costumes. I believe it was created by Bret "da M-A-N" Blevins.

Sadly this costume was little used, as the Inferno Story arc took her out of the picture for awhile.

I love Bret Blevins' work on New Mutants too - his stuff was just beyond belief sometimes in how surreal it could get and still work - but I've always hated this costume. It looks too "Silver Age teen sidekick", which feels especially wrong for Illyana since she had no superhero envy whatsoever. Even so, I'm glad to see some fan art of it; I like being able to look at fan art of every character and costume in a series, both the good and the bad.
And this is a very well-done drawing. Great action-oriented pose, her grip on the sword is convincingly tight, and even that simple moon outline adds some atmosphere. It has a little of that Blevins touch, too, making it feel kind of like an unpublished sequence from the comic.

Oh, man. I'm so glad to see a fan art of her in this outfit! I'm hoping to cosplay it for Comic Con or maybe even Dragon*Con.

Y'know, before i even opened this one, i said to myself- i bet he's a bret blevins fan. I find it to be pretty funny.

Any fan of the New Mutants has to be a Bret Blevins fan. Everything he does is awesome but his NM stuff was beyond that.
His sketchbooks are very resourceful too.
