The girl looks a bit pasted... It's mostly her saturated colors against dimmed background, I believe, and she could use some shadows on the clothes. Photomanips / digital paintings, when intended to be more realistic (not abstract or conceptual) tend to have more contrast than normally seen in reality. I'm not sure if it should be so or it's just people who decided to associate such a property with digital art 
I.e. her braid has good photomanip-y contrast.

I thought "desolate" when I saw this. Her pose and expression is perfect, as well as being in space. Ends of the spectrum. It really makes you realize our mediocrity.

I loved that pose and expr. from the moment I saw it, and it has been on my comp for months, waiting for the right idea.
Once again, I first tried something wholly different, but it just didn't work. I think what my conscious mind produces mostly doesn't work, and subconsciousness rules me.
Tablet work is not much visible here, but if you look at the closeup, there's the braid and the rest. (For some reason I painted stripes on the umm... braid holder, too.)

I know what you mean. You just see a stock image and you're like "...I know I can use that!" Same here, with the subconscious production.
I like the hair a lot. I actually like the little details a bunch. They're what make the piece.
