Description
This is an improved version of a picture I did about a year and a half ago. I think it's a good example of how far I've come in the last little while, really quite happy with this one.Time spent: 6-7 hours, photoshop CS2

Looks to me as if this version is a couple minutes after the first version: The sun in the east has risen a bit more, throwing more light onto the destruction. Cthulhu, having seen what He hath wrought, turns away towards the rising sun and departs into the sea.
He hath looked upon His work and it is good.

While this is a lot better artistically speaking, the original had a far more creepy and odd vibe. It was hard to tell which way Cthulhu was pointing and he seemed to blend with the ocean, where as here he seems to hover above it.
I think this is definitely an improved, but some atmosphere was lost when the details were filled in.

I'm not sure if that pic is actually good... I mean... you don't dare to stare at Cthulhu and expect to keep your sanity unscathed... I just gave it a glance, sorry.

This reminds me of the "typical" manga cocky-hero move : turning around and starting to walk away when they think they are done with their enemy. The sea looks so impossibly realistic!

I have to say I like the original better. Don't get me wrong, this is very good, but there was something about the vague, indistinct-ness of the burning city in the original that felt more akin to the spirit of Lovecraft's world. And Cthulhu's pose; he seemed more powerful, more imposing, and only half turned from the burning city as if he was gazing on his work. In this one, he looks somewhat slouched, as if leaving the office after a long day.

but the perspective is a bit off.
it gives the weird impression that the lake is truncated at where Cthulhu is standing :/
either there's a giant waterfall there or Cthulhu's power is refracting the light around him strongly

Yes, less impressionistic , clearer in the image of our civilization laid to rubble by his malific mind. When he first awoke , there were outbursts of insanity around the world,many had strange dreams, a few went delirious and one stayed a raving maniac. For the most part, when R'lyeh sank again, the insanity outburst stopped.
