Quinn is a very blunt individual and he was not saying the things he said out of spite or to hurt Maddox.He was just pointing things out that he found odd in Quinn's mind he is helping Maddox to realize he needed someone to be there for him as well.
Meanwhile Maddox is thrown off because this is stuff he has never even considered before. Of course he still cares for Jared but he just has a lot of new things on his plate to consider thanks to Quinn.

But he did not even dare to say goodbye ... nor even told anyone that he was leaving. And once we was with Cole he had so much to fix that he did not know what to handle first... He has no idea what he broke ... but his heart is himself broken at that time so...in definitive he just tried to protect himself ... it does not excuse anything. In this story, everyone is unhappy ...

When it comes to Maddox's emotional state Quinn is definitely a good and a bad influence. He pushes Maddox to feel the things he would much rather not deal with because of his self-sacrificing nature. Quinn just wants Maddox to realize he is human too and needs just as much love and care as the next person who had just lost someone important in their life. Quinn was basically doing a piss poor job at telling Maddox to acknowledge his own pain and loneliness.
Maddox understands that everyone deals with pain differently but he was always a little hurt by Jared up and leaving but he never thought much of it until now. Quinn isn't good for his friendship with Jared at the moment that is for sure though. Especially with his way of speaking. Far too blunt for his own good.
