There is no part of this that explains why Starlight has a beef with Derpy.
Starlight recognizes what she was doing as wrong so she knows Derpy was right to leave. But Starlight still picked a fight for no reason.

While not as graphic, I wouldn't be surprised if Starlight had eventually planned to remove horn and wings like Discord had.

I guess you're glad that Starlight can't name anything you did before you left the hive, eh? It would be such a shame if she could tell Dinky how many ponies her mother has killed.

Sorry, I've read some of the comments to try and get additional info, but... I'm still confused. Clearly Starlight thinks that Derpy did something really terrible, but I don't get a sense of what here. Was it just that Derpy helped her start the town? That doesn't make sense, because Derpy left, which would have been a clear sign that she didn't approve, and since Starlight doesn't approve anymore and is even ashamed of what she did, wouldn't that be grounds for being okay with each other since they now agree it was awful? So that can't be it. Does it have something to do with what Derpy's ideas of equality actually were? She doesn't actually SAY what her definiton is - only that it differs from Starlight's. I'm also confused why Starlight didn't know that Derpy read her diary - did Derpy simply up and leave without explaining to Starlight why she suddenly didn't agree anymore?
I totally understand that you guys aren't perfect and that this scene isn't important to the story (like I said, I read the comments). But I'm genuinely confused and curious - exactly WHY is Starlight so ticked at Derpy? I don't feel it was explained clearly and I honestly want to know.

Simply put Derpy is a Changeling. Her mentality/worldviews/certain moralsðics may not be the same as the Ponies. Because Derpy is not a Pony, she is not as forgiving as one. It can also be said that she just doesn't trust anyone who has a type of authority(Chrysalis, the Sisters). Also keep in mind Derpy knowing how dangerous the ideas in the diary were never told anyone. Can you think of any Pony who would keep quiet about something like that?
Derpy simply up and left because Dinky was with her and since Dinky has wings, Derpy got out of there as soon as she read the diary.
The reason why Starlight is still ticked at Derpy is that Starlight felt that Derpy betrayed her by leaving without even a 'goodbye'.

I can only give you my own interpretation since I'm no writer:
You're right, Derpy did the objectively right thing. But back then she did not only decide against Starlight's deep ideals, she broke her trust. I'm not so much into psychology, but I imagine the traitor label might stick harder than yourself being wrong. The fact that someone understands they were very wrong does not necessary solve a deeply ingrained hatred that grew over years. What if Starlight was surprised of seeing Derpy and switched from being reasonable to danger-mode?
Another possible factor is Derpy knowing Starlight pretty well. Her getting out of her shell and start talking might risk the peaceful life and the friendships Starlight made in Equestria.

When you think about it, the end result of that plan would have ended in the death of every pony. Unicorns can still use magic as long as they have a way to direct magic outward on the forehead. The Pegasus part would be the least damaging since they could still walk on clouds. The Earth pony problem would be the nail in the coffin. To sap them of their strength trait would result in many ponies lacking the needed strength to just stand. When you add that to the other types you are left with bodies everywhere.

Graeystone In reply to Wabefuhon [2017-10-27 18:03:54 +0000 UTC]
Earth pony's - They'd still be able to walk.
What I tried to imply is that Starlight would have removed all the 'Supernatural' aspects of being a Pony: the magic, the flight, the strength. The pony race would be reduced to just being ponies that can talk.

That's true. Well it'd be more like 'sealing' instead of 'removing'. The magic would still be there but there'd be no way to channel it to perform supernatural feats.

There might be if one is determined enough. There is however the unique stature of certain ponies. Such as Bulk Biceps and Trouble Shoes. Trouble Shoes is naturally bigger than any pony excluding the Alicorn sisters and Bulk has his muscles several times larger than any pony. Even his wings are smaller than Scootaloo's. So Starlight's idea falls into a major roadblock when it comes to ponies who are either naturally bigger or have put so much of their life into physical exercise to make up for a limitation.

Graeystone In reply to Wabefuhon [2017-10-31 22:04:14 +0000 UTC]
Thing of it is, Trouble Shoes and Bulk would have fit in perfectly if Derpy's vision for the village had come true.
Heh, Trouble Shoes. One idea I pitched to moe for a comic was having Trouble, Derpy(regular), Pinky, and Discord be the main characters. The premise what that Chrysalis had somehow shifted the balance between Chaos and Order(with a major shift toward Order). This had a real bad affect with Celestia(an Embodiment of Order) and Discord(an Embodiment of Chaos). Celestia was taking in too much magic to handle and had to release it every day(and each day it got worse with the possibility of going Magical Nuclear Explosion) while Discord was loosing his power and he begins to fade away. To regain the balance, the regular 'champions of order' could not fight the battle. It would have taken a group of protagonists who are more 'chaotic' in their ways.

It's surprisingly stupid how people ignite their butts if someone's opinion is different from theirs, even slightly. Personally, I love Starlight here. Possible? Impossible? IC? OOC? Who cares?
IMO Starlight's plans feel a little bit like imagining what to do with a "Deathnote", you know?
Everyone who watched Deathnote imagined what to do with it - ultimately killing someone. Here - IMO - it's similar.
Starlight was in charge of "Our Town" and probably (?) imagined what to do as soon as she gathered enough ponies under her control.
It's seems "OOC-Like-Cruel" for her to do what Derpy read about, but... I think it's not impossible to imagine that Starlight had thoughts like that. I mean: Why stop at their cutie marks?
It was all about her feeling better than anypony else (by keeping her own cutie mark) and... Well. It's possible.
Oh and: I love Starlight x3

Wait, I thought she kept her cutie mark because she's the only one who could remove cutie marks. She even said it: "How can I collect your cutie marks without my magic?!"
I personally don't see much logic in "Why stop at their cutie marks?". Because she thought cutie marks were bad and they tore apart friendships. Thus getting rid of them (or sealing them away) would make the world a better, more harmonious place. There's also the possibility of Starlight not being able to cast that spell on herself. I dunno, I personally don't see taking it that far. But that's just me

God can people just shut up about the OOC, it's not their comic!
The beauty of fan comics is being able to portray a character in anyway needed to progress the story and non of it matter because it's NOT CANON, it's FAN MADE.
Yes I can relate that when a character you really like is portrayed really differently and wrongly in your eyes, it is frustrating to a degree (I freakin hate trixie But some people portray her as the sweetest person, I don't care it's their right as an artist to do so and I respect that). but why should that change your opinion on the artist or writer about one simple thing!? Just don't read that comic and continue to enjoy the artists other works. It's pretty childish to bawl about how your favorite character is being portrayed in SOMEONE ELSES WORK and REALLY childish to unwatch said person because they don't hold the same character in as high regards as you do.
Just appreciate the art and how this is a great plot point!
Now that that's out of the way.
This comic is taking so many turns! Now we have this whole plot device to think of on top of the chrysalis situation!

I'm probably playing the devil's advocate in the eyes of some, but it's better to say it now rather than later. How the author of this comic portrays a certain character is their choice. If they don't happen to like said character, then that's within their right. After all, this is a fan creation, not the actual show. So there can be different interpretations of characters than what would be found under normal circumstances.
Some people will just take said interpretations as they are and enjoy a good story. Others are just going to get all hot and bothered about it. Just like the comic author, that's their choice and they're just as welcome to their own opinion. The only thing I'm hoping folks will do is to stop and consider if it's worth making such a big fuss over as I've seen happen sometimes. That sort of trouble is just more than I think any of us really wants to deal with.
That being said, my personal opinion is that I like how this is going. It's a new spin on how to view changelings, one of my favorite character types in the show. So I'd like to see where this will go.

Okay, you just lost a watcher... I hate it when people put their hate for a character inside a story. Starlight has been behaving WAY OOC from the first page she was in, not to mention Trixie. And you two clearly don't get what Starlight's initial plan for that village was. You thinking that Starlight is indeed THAT cruel just shows how much you don't understand the character.

If Starlight had gotten her way and her plan had succeeded, do you really think it would have started and ended with replacing Cutie Marks? In real life people have pushed for similar goals throughout history.
Also read the last frame of this page - Derpy is letting go and so is Starlight. They'll just evade each other for now on.

Her plan succeeded? It already DID succeed. She was living a happy life with "friends" and no one was bothering them. It's only when Twilight stepped in that she thought she could also equalize the princesses. Make them see "true harmony".
But never, NEVER could I have seen Starlight end up MUTILATING ponies. There's a huge difference between making everyone's talent equal and mutilation.

Keep in mind I'm taking a more 'realistic route' with this comic. MLP is a kids show however in reality, people have done horrible things in the name of Equality. Also did you bother to read the rest of this page? Like part where Starlight is no longer that horrible Pony?

The rest of the page she acted all hoity toity like she was better than Derpy. Again, NOT at all like her character would be. She would be hurt that someone would look at her like that and do everything in her might to set it right. Also Trixie would never say that either. She would go after Derpy and make her apologize 'cause Starlight would never do such things.
And even with your realistic route, Starlight was happy in her village. She just wanted to be left alone. If anything you could've compared them to the Amish where they have nothing special and everyone is equal to each other with one leader. Just a village that wants to be left alone from the rest of the world.
