Even though I'm disappointed in my son's band organization, I did agree to draw some Greek monsters for Halloween. (This year's theme is "The Odyssey") The sphinx looks quite a lot like the band director, beaky nose and all.*cackles*

okay, just to let you know, satyrs, centaurs, tree nymphs are NOT monsters! my gosh, open your eyes when you read greek mythology, and if they are open, then get some new ones!

The "M" is for Mesquite. It's the high school logo.

Gah! You beat me to the punch, Christi. I have plans to do scenes from "The Odyssey" myself. I'm going to be using the movie adaptation starring Armand Asante as reference though because I want to do Circe the enchantress, the cyclops, and a lot of other beings. It will be quite a while before I do it though.

I also like the inclusion of instruments on the characters, but why no banjo or ukelele for the Dryad and Sphinx?

Well, the Dryad is wearing the same outfit that the drill team/flag girls wear while marching. The tree is actually significant because their band's symbol is a tree (don't ask why, it's a dumb reason). The drum line has a thing where they play and everyone shouts "Watch out for that TREE!"
The sphinx is basically a caricature of the band director. *L* He's got a beaky nose and a long skinny neck.

Oh I just love these...
And I feel a special affinity with the Centaur, as I'm a Sagittarius who also plays the Trumpet (it's such a cool instrument!)

Oh, yes... my son plays trumpet so that's the centaur, Medusa the flute, the faun the clarinet, and the dryad is wearing the same outfit as the flag girls.

Oh, he's allowed to play in class -- just not perform at games and at contests. I've written some emails and gotten it off my chest. We'll see what happens.
