Description Metis was a titan in greek mythology, first consort to Zeus and mother of Athena. She was the one who gave Zeus the potion to make Cronus vomit out his siblings. It was prophesied that Metis would give birth to powerful children, first a daughter (Athena) and then a son who would overpower his father. Fearful of being over thrown, Zeus turned Metis into a fly and swallowed her. She was already pregnant with Athena when he turned her into a fly, and Athena was born inside of Zeus, erupting out of his head fully grown.
Her name means wisdom and she herself was called the embodiment of prudence. I found her to be an interesting character, someone who played a supportive role, but gave birth to a very powerful and independent daughter.
