It's weird how Koffing was "upside-down" in Red and Blue but nowhere else... not even in the original Japanese versions.I'm also not sure if the teeth belong to the upper jaw, the lower, or if it's some weird stitched-together thing.

It is weird that it got switched up like that. Seems like a big oversight, or a big change if it was done on purpose. I remember in Red and Blue that Kingler had two giant pincers instead of one, and Golbat had an enormous slobbery tongue to go with his mouth. I wonder what other things got switched or changed.

Gastly lacked a proper "body", Cloyster was "sideways", one of Exeggcute was waaaaaay bigger than the others, and Pikachu seemed a bit more Raichu-esque (his belly and maybe paws were different colors from the rest of his body, and his tail seems to be doing that "rope tail ending in a lighting bolt" thing) -- those always stood out to me. I'm guessing those were earlier beta designs, though I'm not sure why they'd have used those instead of the "correct" ones.
A lot of 'Mons also had beady little eyes; I think that may have just been a limitation with the sprites, though.
It was always fun hooking up with Stadium to see everyone in their true glory. Golbat actually kept his freaky tongue there, though.

What would be interesting is if those designs turned into variants of that species, or a sub-species. All of them that were mentioned aren't too radical of changes that you would mistake them for anything else. Why not have a Cloyster that holds its shell sideways? Or Kingler that has grown two large claws? A Pikachu that looks like a cross between its current form and adult form would not be all that crazy.
