Ihr Willkommen.
I hope I wrote that correctly, my German is extremely rusty. My grandfather can speak it as his mother was German.

we don't say ihr willkommen, it's the correct translation from welcome but we say "bitte" or "gern geschehen"

My grandfather is a bit senile, so he was probably speaking in formal German as he said that his mom would whack him if he didn't speak formally to her. She was a very hardheaded German woman.
I'm not even sure which part of Germany her folks came from. They died before I was even born, even before my dad was. Though my grandmother did talk about how her German mother nagged about how people were talking bad about Hilter, he's good for their people. My grandmother told me that she believed that Hilter was doing good for Germany. He did do good but then he went mad, as my grandmother told me and things changed to cause a WW.

Yeah, both my grandparents would argue with their mothers about what Hilter was really doing but they both were stubborn Germen women. They believed what he was saying and not seeing the truth, only if we had the internet back then, they probably would have seen the reality of what he was doing and started to cuss him out instead of praising him.
Both my great-grandmothers were nurses here in America during the war and my grandfather when he was 21 years old enlisted soon after he got married in 42 leaving his wife who found out while he was gone that she found out that she was pregnant with my dad, GPA was thrilled by the telegram he sent back to her. My grannduncle died in WW2 for the Brits before the US got involved by Peal Harbor attack. He was in the Air force as a bomber, his plane got shot down, while his men bailed, he stayed behind to keep the plane from landing on civilian lands and landed in the ocean nose first. He died on impact with the ocean from what I saw on his death certificate.
I'm not even sure which part of Germany my great grandparents were from. GPA did say something about Strasburg, but I'm not good with German names.

I think that is where my grandfather's family came from, not 100% sure but it might be where greatgrandmother stayed before moving to America.
