Description I was enchanted by the gorgeous lamps lining the river Thames. And I have the photos to prove it

This has a very nice balance of color and light and dark. I like the sunset and lamplit effect. It is kind of like taking a picture of the moon at sunrise. The moon is only a pale reflection of the true light of the sun and amidst the colorful glory of the rising sun it somehow looks particularly other worldly. The Thames eh? Was this London or perhaps Oxford? Probably a bit different from roo-land.

Thanks for your comment. I don't think I fully appreciated at the time just how good the timing was. Ah yes, I should have realised that saying only that it was the Thames might be ambiguous. It was indeed in London.

Beautiful. I actually think it looks better in silhouette, especially with the sunset behind.

Thanks for your comment. Yes, that is a kind of interesting effect, now that you mention it. It was good that the lights were turned on before it got too dark, so that a shot like this was possible.

Indeed. Don't think I'm quite passionate enough about these lamps to dedicate my life to them. Oh well, never mind. I'll always have the photos

Thank you Yep, the sky came out really well and I couldn't get over how lovely those lamps were. My camera is constantly frustrating me by not being vaguely capable of handling bright things and dark things in the same shot, but sometimes the silhouettes do end up looking quite cool, so that's nice at least.

The only way I can get my camera to do dark and bright is over exposing with the flash. Sorry Iftat is confusing, I'm not really sure how to explain it... But If you'd like I can try.

No, I get what you mean. Yes, I should probably do that more often. I just have this hatred of using the flash, even though it can be useful sometimes. I'm so out of the habit of using it that it doesn't even occur to me to use it. I guess I don't like the artificial nature of the light it provides, but then again, I sometimes use a torch to illuminate things, so I'm just being silly really. Thanks for the tip
