[UPDATE]This picture was the first digital painting attempt of mine that I consider as sucessful. I do still like it, and yet, the face started to look really odd to me, so that I couldn't keep it anymore, and I have decided to give it a couple of brush strokes....I ended up overpainting the whole face after all. Don't know if it looks better now, but it looks more real to me and - it does look so much more like Ash now
I have also improved his horns, hair and hand shading.

Photoshop Painting effort
Probably the best I can do for the moment in what concearns anime-ish styled painting.Well, trying to give a second breath to the Ash II ash comics project, an alterative cover-ish thingie for a start, a coupel of pages to come
I have faced a lot of critique and gave a critical look to my previous work on this project and want to get it working better. And so I will
This was, although extremely long and not particulary creative, rather fun and nice to work on.

Wow, Moony. This is a great piece; the text is astounding up on top. Did you draw the text yourself or render it in Illustrator or Photoshop? Either way, the muted effect of the text is very successful.
The composition of this piece is a sort of standard face-on approach, centered, which is great for showing off the character. I think it was a good choice for this cover piece, since this way we get to see the character's face fully. It gives it an honest feel.
The shadow of the hand as it draws over the face is exquisite, as is the fact that your shading on this piece in general is wonderful. You didn't overlight the piece, as some artists do (though overlighting has never been your tendency anyway).
My only critique might be thus: the eyes are a little large -- but at the same time, that's purely stylistic and they're very well rendered, so frankly that's not really something I would worry about changing or rethinking, since it gives us a sense of the character's innocence.
The digital painting in this piece is astounding, the textures are rich and juicy (for lack of a better term!) with this wonderful chalky, layered feel (like on the cheek) that is VERY successful for the piece as a whole.
The background is also beautiful and appropriately understated, the checkered lava-like glow effect is ominous. It gives me a sense that it's that character against some impossible odds, which excites me.

For the title, I used a pretty standart photoshop font and then rasterized it and edited it with an opaque brush
