Shackled and broken. Tied to a ring in the wall. I took my hands off the wall. I let go of it and turned to you. You said you would lead me away from this place. But the moment my fingertips broke contact with that wall you wavered in front of me like a mirage and disappeared. If only I had held on to the wall a little longer. When I let go everything went black. I felt nothing but cold. Saw nothing but darkness. The only sound that reached my ears was screaming. It was loud. Terrified.

It was ME.

The sound turned my blood to ice. Shocked me into the reality of the situation. I had been a fool. I had let go of my life line; my way out of that cold, rainy place. I knew I shouldn't have let go. Shouldn't have followed you. But I did. Now I'm wandering, terrified, cold, alone. My hands out in front of me. They scrape things now and then. Hard, solid, cold things. I keep thinking that I've found the wall again. When I turn to these unknown masses though, they disappear. Like ghosts. Like phantoms. Like you...
While physically there is nothing; internally, mentally, and emotionally I'm riding the waves of the ocean in the middle of a hurricane.
I crest to the top, looking down I see what's coming. A fall. A painful slap to my soul as I tumble from the top of the wave and free fall to the dark abyss below me. I break into the sea, my body is on fire. Everything is broken. My arms, my legs, my neck.

My heart.

Shattered and pulverized in this churning mass of fury and pain. This ocean where I drift. I am slammed and crushed by the waves as they push me down farther and farther. Deeper into the abyss. My lungs burning for air. I choke on the saltwater and it fills my airways. Drowning me from the inside out. The darkness envelopes me and I let out the last breath I have. I give up. I surrender. I stop trying to fight the waves, the wind, the fury of the storm. I stop trying to fight you. I turn myself over to the dark. My eyes close. I feel myself slip away...

White light sears my sight. Blinds me. I turn, trying to escape from it but it's all around me. I open my eyes to slits. They adjust slowly. I'm in a white room. No pattern on the walls or the ceiling. Everything is white. Spotless. Like a surgical room... Like a lab... Everything but the dark grey metal that encircles my wrists and connects me to the wall.
Chains.
Shackles.

I hurl myself away from the wall, the metal cuts into my wrists. Slices into my skin. Red. A splash of terrible color in this blank place. I stare at it dripping on the white floor. For minutes or hours; who knows... All that marks the passing of time is the pain and the constant dripping of blood. When I finally look up I see something else.

You.

Standing before me. Smiling at me. Like an animal. A predator. I know you are here to kill me...
