Dwarf battlemages are front-line magic users. Every dwarf fortress, or bigger spaceship have a squad of battlemages. Their armor is heavy, and inpenetrable by any pistol and most rifles.(Lasers included.) Our battlemage have a rune-covered sword. He doesn't have to worry even if he forget a spell: his helmet have a built-in display. He also has gold all on his weapons: this indicates that he is a veteran mage. Most mages in the galaxy use magic staffs. Dwarf ones, on the other hand, use battleaxes with magic gemstones. His backpack hides a lot of useful things, and looks like an old fantasy spellbook.
