Description When I use a GND filter, and there happens to be trees on the horizon, I usually take at least two seperate exposures just IN CASE I need to blend the two together to be able to reduce the grad line. In this case, this is one of those expsures that I ended up liking better than the ones with the GND. I didn't want to blend any either because I enjoyed the sillhouettes better. Thanks for any comments.

Jake

Another sensational shot. If I would have to be critical, then for the reason that this submission looks too compressed. On my screen, the leafless tree in front of the clouds has some kind of gosthly white shimmer to it. I believe that's coming from jpg-compression for the web (if I'm wrong, please tell me, cause that helps to judge pics more accurately). Well, it might look different on another screen; that's the frustrating thing when producing works for the web.

All that said, it's breathtaking. And I envy you the beautiful moment you experienced in this location.

I believe you're right, here. I can't stand compressing my works for the web because I feel like I lose so much detail and color from the original. Thank you very much for the kind words.

As deviantArt is rather generous when it comes to the size of pics uploaded, you wouldn't have to compress your beautiful work too much. Me, I upload stuff in 300dpi res. and no compression applied (using PS Lightroom for export, it does a beautiful job). I think it still gets downsampled somehow here at dA, but very decently so.

The downside of uploading high quality images is, of course, that they can easely be used by others for a range of purposes. Something which is unfair and amounts to theft, as we all know. You still could lay a watermark across it, but that actually spoils it when on display. As I don't have plans to ever try to make a living out of my stuff, I don't care much about this issue. This might be different for you, especially since your work is very professional. Most everything I have seen in your gallery could easely be illegally used for sophisticated products, be that dedicated books, travel brochures, posters, advertising etc. And if this would happen in a country other then the one you come from, any legal action could be very difficult to apply. So it's finally about what risks you're willing to take.

One thing is sure: you got an amazing gallery with some of the finest work I've ever seen when it comes to landscapes. And I like it that you're telling the story behind pics while freely letting us in on your "trade secrets". That's unusual, but very welcome.

The only problems I have with uploading larger photos is, like you said, theft, and I don't want anyone to have to scroll across their screen just to see the whole photo. I REALLY don't like the use of watermarks, it just spoils the photo for me. Thanks again. Your comments really mean a lot to me.
