Description Rhino numbers have been crashing in the wake of a recent spike in poaching.

A "herd" of rhinoceros is called a CRASH.

This crash was safe, for the time being.

RHINO HORN IS NOT MEDICINE
RHINO HORN DOES NOT IMPROVE YOUR SEX LIFE
RHINO HORN CURES NOTHING

Pretty sure you are. Also *thumbs up* for the message:

RHINO HORN IS NOT MEDICINE

STOP RHINO POACHING

would like to add rhino horns are made from the same material as our hair and nails. the poacher not really the core problem... those are usually people who live in extremely poor country's they don't kill rhinos because the want luxury items, they do it cause it gives them money to tend to there family... the problem are the people who offer a hole lot of money for the horns to sell it to idiots who thinks its a natural viagra or make knifes from it. Strike the merchants who profit on suffering of rhinos and humans alike. Educate the people who thinks horns can be made into medicine. And support WWF so the can offer the option to people to be rangers instead of poachers.

Did this happen to be in Kruger? We saw a rhino while we were there with an intensely long horn that looked very similar to this fellow. I wasn't lucky enough to get a picture this close, but he was amazing to see!

thanks...I don't disclose location of rhinos publicly anymore due to the poaching scourge, I hope you understand

Glorious!

Have you heard about/seen the programs which tranquelize wild rhinos and humanely remove their horns [they grow back in about 2/3 years] so they are not targeted by poachers? I forget where I read about it Maybe NatGeo.

MorkelErasmus In reply to KreepingSpawn [2012-12-03 21:51:13 +0000 UTC]

yup...yet some of those are even killed for the stumps that are left when the horn is removed!

What a beautiful family! It's so sad that their horn is worth so much to poachers In Asia, the horn is actually used more for cancer prevention than as an aphrodisiac, but either way, there are much cheaper and more effective alternatives.
