Description When: July 20, 2018
Where: Zie-ZOO Volkel, The Netherlands

They don't come out of their hiding spot for much less than that

Species: Bat-Eared Fox (Grootoorvos of Lepelhond)

Latin name: Otocyon Megalotis

Originates from South Africa.

Current status: Least Concern

 Did you know:

…The Bat-Eared Fox is predominantly monogamous.

…In contrast to other Canids, they have a reversal in parental roles, the males taking on the majority of parental care behavior.

…Some view Bat-Eared Foxes as an entirely different sort of species – the Otocyon – while others say it is in fact closely related to the true Foxes, of the genus Vulpes, and another group divides them into an outgroup which is not closely related to true Foxes at all.

Thanks They're not that well known or often seen unfortunately, but very cool animals
I've got a special folder dedicated to them in my gallery, with some babies mixed in too!

I love it when animals break a stereotype
I've seen this particular couple (no succesful litter yet as far as I know) and it's easy to say they're really a couple the way they act together

Thank you
They are truly fascinating creatures; the parents we've seen with babies handle their kits together and it's just the best
