Description

This art is but a knife in an ever deepening wound,

that wrenches in my heart every time it reminds me of his smile.

" Where does magic come from ? This question has been dumbfounding scholars, gurus and other magicians, for as long as it had existed. Even I to this day, despite being my life work, am still not convinced of its upspring. I will try to do my best to explain in this book my findings about its innerworkings and how I believe it functions.

Let us begin at the beginning. Most of those who will read this book will be aware already, but there exist two main categories of magical arts in Parcimia : the antique magics and the more modern arts. Of course, at the start of society, many millenia ago, there probably existed only the antique magics. As you are aware, when Kreon was founded, an event we know as "the carvings of Kreon", there used to be an order of magi known as the stone singers. Using a combination of whistling, chanting and rythmic incantations, they were able to mold, bend and carve out large quantities of rock and stone, using only their voice. Legend says that they were able to discover these abilities during religious reunions, where they would sing and gospel in order to pray to the mountain gods. Sadly, during the Kreon wars of succession, this art has been forever lost to time, after the disbanding of the order and the arrival of the one. Another primitive art that has been lost is the fabled fleeting wind school that uses dances and rythmic choreographies to carve magic into the air and create powerfull and devastating spells. The stories say that this particular art was developped beyond the heights of Baarnan, where lives the spotted stoat, native to the region and considered a sacred animal to the tribes there. This little beast si capable of invoking powerful winds by carving the magic out of the air by jumping across a few staves*, leaving a blue trail, not unlike the ones that the Gestdred mages of the fleeting wind were able to do a few years ago when they were still around. We can easily deduce that they found this power by imitating the stoats and creating their own dances to amplify their power.

But where am I going with this ? You see, Stone singing has a strong connection to earth whilst The fleeting wind is bound to the air around us. I have been able to notice that certain areas of the continent had very poor magic, since of the difficulty to cast anything there, while others thrived, like the Gestdred plateau, and the Trelock valleys, from which both arts have come. Hence the hypothesis that magic comes from the center of the world, instead of anywhere else..."
