Though I think templates acting as a limitation helps the artists become more creative and shows how different users think with their works when comparing all the submissions, it would be cool if one year they did have more of a concept for art than a template.
And on DA as a whole, yeah there are a large majority of users who end up making it look bad but that's with any social media platform (Instagram is known for narcissism, Youtube for pandering a-holes, DA for fandom and fetish art, Tumblr for "libtards," ect), in the end there are people there who aren't really that.

I'm all for the fact dA does anything at all that promotes creativity in the community, I guess I would like to see maybe one of these years they do a creative prompt instead, I guess like what they did back in April Fools of 2017 where everyone just had to draw that weird pear meme thing. I dunno I like that over the pre-rendered art that we have to color.
It's all goof though, despite how much we all make fun of deviantART it really is all in the spirit of creating art, since ya know, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that, so even though there are weird subgenres on the site the fact that there's always a place for people who are into that kind of stuff is kind of a great thing in of itself.

This is pure madness. And I love it.
And I agree, I only do the "color the thing" page every year so I can get me a badge.
