Description For the nightmare themed part of the contest over at #AnimeMangaBefore2000

What is so neat about Violinist of Hameln is that you can take pretty much any good guy, go with the theme nightmare and pretty much being able to be inspired by the manga itself. They all had a fear, a nightmare, that they never wanted to go through, but once they do, they overcome that fear and has character development to boot.

Trom Bone is probably one of the characters that has the most development in the manga. He goes from being kind of a scared kid (I mean come on, of course you'd be scared if you were in his shoes) and kind of a douche as well, and pretty weak to boot. In the end, he's determined, willing to fight for others and not care for his own survival and beats the sly and cunning Beast King Guitar, Guitar of a Thousand Swords, in a fight between knights.

The dark smog was originally human shaped, as they were supposed to represent the ghosts of Dal Segno, Trom's fallen kingdom. As Trom wasn't present when it went under, Trom was terrified that the spirits of the citizens would rise and haunt him and destroy his sanity. Having to meet the Hell Clown Orgel of all people, the user of magical music to bring back the spirits of the dead and take them under his control, Trom had the face his horrid nightmares.

The main reason I didn't make them human shaped in the end was because one) they looked horrible, two) they looked like the ghosts in Panty&Stocking, and I don't want that. Now it looks more like White Hand except grey. /snort
