Finally! She's done. Took 'bout 7-8 hours, Open Canvas. Whew! I'd recommend full view for the full... uh... glory. Yeah, let's go with that.

i was just surprised cos its your DP and all, and i was curious then it turned out to something i know...
hm... favourtie character... thats a toughy... draw between Kaylee and River if i have to pick but I also love Inara's wisdom, Wash's wackiness, Jayne's loveable horniness and Mal's.... mal-ness. So yeah, mostly, just plain goodness. Well not plain... thats what makes it so good!
and for Kaylee... i know nothing about compy painting, as i don't have a tablet and find normal brushes are fine enough, but maybe add some extra shine to her eyes or lightness? Like a cheery atmo with a kindly smile and sensual stare? does that seem right? i dunno i'm just rambling. later!
(P.S. The mother of oats is from Joss Whedon actually... i forget where, but i love household deities)

A great tribute to one of my favourite ever characters ... *takes a moment to curse Fox * ... You captured her extremely well and I do love the style of it. It really looks like her hair is flowing and billowing in the wind.
The lips are great, and it actually looks like her! Amazing how many people miss this vital point. My only criticism is the eyes too, as someone already said. They look a little uneven but nothing drastic.
If you could do a Kaylee half as good I'd be in heaven. I envy Simon so much (when he finally gets it right!)

You know, I've attempted Kaylee 2 different times. I get halfway done and then.... all goes straight to hell. I can't capture her essence!!! Maybe I just need a better photo reference...

She does have a unique look. Can you get stills from the DVD? From the movie, that bit where she's looking after Simon from saying : "Not that you would spit", that sums up Kaylee for me. Ad there are lots of bits from the series.

I hate it when people use the computer to make these flawless "paintings" and you can't see the brush strokes. When paint isn't mixed well and you get the occasional clash of colors, or that immediate change of color on the same brush stroke... or you just see the movement in the painting...blah blah...i just love it. sounds retarded, but i love those small...(for lack of a better word) imperfections.

Ahh! I totally know what you mean. Traditional art seems to have so much more of a human element in that sense.
For me, using the computer is a way to practice... since I don't have the time to clean up after paints, or the money to buy them currently. But if I do a bunch of "paintings" this way... I'll have a better understanding on how color works and looks...even if its in such a different format. Because of this, I don't really consider any of my stuff "art"... because its all just practice. They're studies. Experiments. One day I'll have the time and money to get back to the good ol' ways.

I love the colour scheme so much! And I love the tight scratchy style.
The only thing I might offer advice on is her eyes. Her irises seem very flat and the same colour all around. Real eyes are a raging montage of colour and depth. More variation in her eyes would really make them pop.
But even still, gorgeous painting. I can wait to see more!

Yup! You're totally right--eyes ARE a raging montage of color and depth (I like the way you put that. Very poetic).
The scratchy style was an experiment, so I was focusing on color blending rather than little details like eye luminosity (is that a word?). Next time, I'll work on some more colorful, bright, shiny, juicy eyes for ya. Deal?

Wow! This is definately one of your best. I like the scratchy shading job quite a lot. Especially around the lips it's almost topographical. Really works well.
