hahaha wandering my bookmarks and saw this. It has been quite a long time since I use Firefox 3+ :') This brings back my memories using Firefox. But past is past. I would like to say this is a really good Firefox theme. I used it on my Firefox 3+. I should say this a long time ago, but I don't know why I didn't. Cheers!

It should do, if you use Firefox 3.6 or earlier.

If you are using a later version, try Stratiform instead, with the Strata40 styles.

Nah, Stratiform replaced Strata40 for FF4 and onwards. Not exactly the same but it follows a similar style (if you pick the Strata40 styles).

How can I get the "Home Tab" for Firefox 4? Like it was in the mockups?

muckSponge In reply to wvrodgers [2011-03-28 04:01:05 +0000 UTC]

If you are willing to use Firefox 4, you can install Stratiform and enable "tab style buttons". Customize the tab bar by right clicking it and drag in the home button. This is one way to do it. The other way is to type "about:home" in the urlbar and right click the resulting tab and pin it. This won't give you the home icon but it will give you a functional home tab.

Thanks for this add-on for 3.6
Gave me an idea of what 4.0 looked, and gave me what looks better than the (somewhat) boring interface of Firefox 3.6

P.S. Thanks for Stratiform too!

love the looks, was thankful to find the likes of this....since most all the available themes i saw were horrid or overly simple looking to me : /

Strata40 for Firefox 4 is now an extension called Stratiform: [link]

Inside that you get lotsof different styles and stuff. One of these is for that Strata40 look.

amazing addons/styles, i was amazed when i first found them... and am looking over firefox 4 to make it feel more like it. adding back a few of the bars, and tabs not on top/as prefered. yet i could have sworn that yous might have been cleaner than ff4. regardless i hope i can find substitutes for the other addons you recommended like fission etc.
i did find a progress bar addon, so i suppose im good there at least, although i wish that option was on the tabs individually as well as the button on the end to list all the tabs. i suppose there may be options already included in this new version that i've missed.
but i hope you can continue making more styles and would love to see things for firefox 4, as i liked the idea of ff4 ahead of schedule more than the looks i got when i actually installed it.

Sorry about my english…
Good job, man!
Buuuut… How I put the star-button from left to right?
I've checked the CSSs, did various tests, but no success.
Can you help on that?
Thanks in advance!

muckSponge In reply to rustnnes [2011-02-26 01:56:13 +0000 UTC]

I can't remember, but we might have included an option for it in StrataBuddy. If we didn't, try the following CSS in Stylish:

#page-proxy-stack,
#star-button {
display: -moz-box !important;
}

#identity-box #star-button {
display: none !important;
}

Can't tell you if it works or not because we don't support Strata40 for Firefox 3.6 anymore. We have moved on to Firefox 4 and our new Stratiform add-on, which carries on Strata40's legacy in a much more customizable format.

Can you tell me how to make a Style to change how Xmarks buttons look?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

muckSponge In reply to V10R37 [2011-02-25 05:59:32 +0000 UTC]

You will need Photoshop and prior knowledge of CSS. Even then I'd probably end up writing a full page tutorial on how to do it, which I don't have time for, sorry It can get very difficult when working with custom buttons.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

V10R37 In reply to muckSponge [2011-02-25 16:51:32 +0000 UTC]

I thought it is not so complicated. I've seen on Stylish some stiles to change how other buttons look (Personal Menu Add-on is one of them), but I don't have a clue about changing how Xmarks Site info button looks like. (I can't use the button from the address bar in the Strata 40 theme and I don't like the default button look )

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

muckSponge In reply to V10R37 [2011-02-26 02:16:52 +0000 UTC]

It requires that you make a set of images for the button in the Strata40 style and then find out the button's ID in Firefox and code it in by finding out the dimensions of the button and where each button state is located in the image containing the button along with its normal, disabled, hover and pressed state.

In short, it is reasonably easy if you know what you are doing but it is time consuming. For someone who has never done it before it is very confusing. We don't actually support Strata40 anymore, instead we use our new add-on, Stratiform for Firefox 4, which uses a new method to make the buttons that means the Xmarks button would look like the other buttons, except for the Xmarks styled glyph, which would remain the same. The add-on features a Strata40 style, and is meant to be the continuation of Strata40 with better customization, smaller file size, smaller system footprint and compatibility with Mozilla's latest browser (Firefox 4).

From my knowledge it should be compatible with WindowBlinds. All you should need to do is download StrataBuddy and make sure the background is set to Aero Glass.

Try this:

#back-button:-moz-locale-dir(rtl),
#forward-button:-moz-locale-dir(rtl),
#status-bar resizer:-moz-locale-dir(rtl) {
-moz-transform: scaleX(-1) !important;
}

Let me know what other thinsg appear backwards and I *should* be able to use the same kind of code to fix them.

When you click to download the jar file you should get a little notification asking you to install it. If you don't and it is on your hard drive, drag it into the add-ons window to install it.

I've never heard of a deviantART download link being down or corrupted, but in any case the above link should work fine.

1. Thank you for responding so quickly. 2. The deviantART link itself isn't down, it's the .jar file that's detected as 'invalid/corrupted' when dragged into FF. 3. When I use the official link, the following happens: Add To Firefox >> Install Now >> 'Waiting' >> I get this error:

Firefox could not install the file at

[link]

because: Download error
-228

According to Mozilla, error -228 means there isn't enough room to store the browser's cache. They say to make sure the minimum limit to be 1MB, and mine is 50MB. Any other suggestions?

muckSponge In reply to Mystery100cp [2010-12-18 11:44:53 +0000 UTC]

You could try making a new Firefox profile. To do this:

Enter the start menu and type "firefox.exe -P". Let me know if it fixes the problem.

Failing that, according to Mozilla the file could be temporarily unavailable. This wouldn't make sense as you managed to download it. You could try opening the .jar using any unarchiving utility (.jar is just a renamed .zip) and seeing if there is anything inside or if it can indeed be opened. If it can't be opened, the file is temporarily unavailable t the site.

Of course, this also wouldn't make sense, as you can't get it from here either.

Probably not. The next version of Strata40 will be available in our new add-on, Stratiform, which is currently in development. It will be one of the options in the add-on and will most likely only be compatible with Windows.

What are the requirements to make it compatible with Linux? There just really are not many really good themes for firefox in linux that I like..

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

muckSponge In reply to drivecool [2010-11-27 00:02:45 +0000 UTC]

Most parts of the interface that use native Windows colours, button styles, borders, etc. will be broken in one way or another if it is used in Linux. None of us developers have a copy of Linux installed and we don't really like to use Linux to make themes. In the end, there are far more users of Firefox running Windows than Linux, so we focus on the Windows community.

It is really not that big of a deal to me. It is one of the best looking themes I have run across though. I use Mac, Linux, and Windows all in my house. I will try the theme on my Windows machine for sure.

Hello SpewBoy!

I've just signed up to deviant art because I like Strata40 theme and I've found there's not a Spanish translation for it. I have tried to download the files that need be translated, but all the links seem to be broken.

I'd love to translate it into Spanish (Spain), es-ES locale, so that more people in Spain and Spanish speaking countries become users of this great theme.

As I'm new here, I don't really know how it works, so if I've done anything wrong, please let me know.

muckSponge In reply to donpedrodacasanova [2010-10-26 07:28:17 +0000 UTC]

Hi, you will need to modify the following files for translation:

options.properties
prefwindow.dtd
translations.dtd

They should be in the en-US locales folder in StrataBuddy's folder. You will need to find the locale for Spanish and translate those files, then you need to put them in their own locale folder and then modify the chrome.manifest file. Add this line to it and replace the bits as necessary:

locale StrataBuddy en-US locale/en-US/

en-US should be replaced by the Spanish locale.

It is a bit complicated. I might also add that for it to be available to everyone I would need to update it again. I would have to keep the version number the same otherwise people would think it was an entirely new version. Anyway, I would keep the version number the same, which would mean it would become experimental and would take a week or two for the editors to check it to make sure it is okay - meaning not many people would be downloading it in this time.

Basically, it probably isn't worth translating at this stage. I will be releasing a Strata40 for Firefox 4 in not too long, which should be the most polished and bug free version yet. It will not need / use StrataBuddy, which means a translation will not be needed.

Translate it if you like, and I will update the add-on but it probably wouldn't be worth it at the moment.

hello SpewBoy,

sorry for being so late. I haven't logged in for a while and i didn't get any notifications from deviantart.

I'm really looking forward to be using your theme in Firefox 4. So as you suggested I'll wait until you're ready.

Just tell me whenever you think it's time to do it. I don't know a lot about the "inner" part of software, but I guess I'll manage to do it with some research.

Please keep me informed, I'll try to translate in no time...hahaha. I guess it won't be such a huge file and in fact, most of if is already translated in the default firefox's menus and themes. I'm glad to be able to help.

By the way I also like twenty ten theme a lot, so if you want I can't do the job for that theme also.

Hello Javi,

There has been a bit of a change of plans for Strata40. Instead of making a regular theme like we have always done and having a companion add-on that needs translating, we are basically scrapping the theme and only having an add-on. The add-on will feature many different mockup-related options and one of those options will be to get the Strata40 look, so there will be a good number of things to translate in the end We are still in the very early development stages of the add-on and haven't even got a name for it yet, but it shouldn't take too long once exams for me are finished.

TwentyTen was developed by BoneyardBrew and SoapyHamHocks (Soapy is the co-developer of Strata40 and this add-on). Contact one of them here on dA about any translations you would like to do
