I've mentioned before that I don't hate Raoul at all. I think he's pretty darn adorable, and if you think about it, Raoul and Christine make a darling couple. They really were meant for each other.Erik doesn't think so, but he's a butthead, so there you go.
(And obviously in my perfect little world, Erik and Christine would frolic happily-ever-after together through a field of poppies, but he was too busy being crazy to do that, so what can you do?)

Something that I really appreciate about the book is that, if one man were not in the picture, she could have a healthy relationship with the other. I mean, think about it. Raoul and Christine were childhood friends and definitely have chemistry, they're very close to each other ever since they were young. But Erik poses a huge threat to their relationship because he's so monopolizing. Also, Erik and Christine probably share a soul or something because of their deep and almost spiritual connection to music, and if the both of them had enough time (and Erik kind of hadn't you know kidnapped her) they definitely would have grown close, because they both complete each other in ways no one else ever could. But Raoul poses a huge threat to their relationship because not only in Erik insecure, but Christine herself is still undecided about how she feels about him for most of the first half of the book.
It's just something I noticed.

At my schools homecoming dance last year, my Home Ec teacher and her husband(who subs) chaperoned, and her husband had Raoul's hair! I swear it. Sadly, this year he grew a beard and then cut his hair, but it was fun while it lasted. And yeah, Chris and Raoul are good together, but I'll always be a Erik/Christine shipper a heart.

Oh Raoul. There are those who call you a little wet (think of the book), but you can't beat a guy who's in touch with his emotions. Besides, this drawing- aaah, it's so incredible, they look so real! Both faces and Christine's arms are somehow my favorite here.

I think you're right. Raoul is such a sweet guy--he just gets a bad rap because he "stole" Erik's only chance of happiness. But if you think about it, he really didn't. Erik, after all, is the one doing all the kidnapping!

Ahh! It's nice to see some quality fanart from a Phantom fan who doesn't hate Raoul. (Sometimes it felt like I was the only one!)
I mean, you gotta step back from the situation and really look at it. We have a girl who's torn between choosing her childhood sweetheart (who seems to be a little on the emotional side but really cares for her and has the best intentions) and a disfigured fifty-something mad genius who's also got a homicidal streak. (And this is coming from someone who loves Erik to pieces!) On top of all of this, we're not talking about a world-wisened woman dealing with this situation, it's a sixteen-year-old girl who's still practically a child!
I'm sure we all know who WE would have chosen, but it's impossible to deny that Christine and Raoul had something special.

Aww! So sweet! I adore these two! I just don't understand how some people can hate Raoul so much. I've always loved his character. Of course, maybe that's because my first exposure to Phantom was through Wishbone so I will forever subconsciously associate Raoul with an adorable puppy

Awwwwww you know I love Raoul too
In some versions I would like to say they were meant for each other such as in the musical adaption and probably the original novel, but in other adaptions, I feel like even though Raoul does truly love her, Christine chose him just because he was the safer deal. Either way, I do think they are cute together.

Raoul and Christine are perfect for each other, and besides Erik deserves someone other than Christine someone that can fix his broken soul, Christine was simply too young and not adept to dealing with someone such as Erik. I love the picture by the way, it is so cute!

Nope, no way, that can't possibly be Raoul our girl is snuggling up to. I mean, just LOOK at his fingers. Those aren't a Navy guy's hands (or the digits of a standard ol' layabout vicomte) they're FAR too long, thin and spider-like to belong to Raoul. No, this guy is OBVIOUSLY Erik in that special mask he'd been working on. You know, the one that would allow him to pass as a normal person. (If it's dark out, foggy, and you squint just right.

Christine's face is so perfectly sweet And Raoul... I guess he's really cute/handsome/hot, but there IS that little fact that he is kind of, well, stupid. A line of dialogue in a book by Derek Landy has always reminded me of Raoul: "Talking to you is like talking to an attractive brick wall." That had me cracking up.
I love Christine's cloak, how it twirls around her as he spins her around. Cloaks remind me of Erik
