My entry for the Guardian graphic short story competition.
It's basically a bunch of microstories documenting changes in people and personalities over time and the fickleness of first impressions.

I was so intrigued by this that I made a little chart to see if the timeline of this would actually make sense, and it does! I'm even more impressed now.
This is the timeline I made:
man at beginning
40 years->grandpa and girl
30 years->girl and joanne, shy man and boyfriend
15 years<-racist father
25 years<-father is a child, girl and mom, crying man, father
25 years<-younger father
each part adds up to around 65-70 years of time.

I really love this comic about how people can change as they grow up. I also like how it flows really well and eventually ties the end back to the beginning. this really is a piece of meaningful and inspiring art. (the only thing is, what are the numbers between some of the panels throughout the comic?)

From what I can tell it's basically a collection of stories all tied together showing how our first impressions/opinions don't really have a grasp of who a person is, or how they got that way, or even what they may grow into. Sort of also showing how our actions can impact others for the rest of their lives.Β
At least, that's what I'm getting from it. The great thing about comics, and meaningful ones like this, is that there can be loads of interpretations and pretty much all of them can be right.

The way you act to others, can leave others acting the same. Choose kindness, because one day, you will wonder what happened to the world, and realize you may have had an effect. Lets hope it's a good one.

Also, don't judge someone based on how they look, or act even. Some people had some pretty messed up lives. Judge them on character they don't show. Bring out their best character.

Notice how one 'evil' or bad experience of one individual affects another individual, like a virus.
Have the courage to stop the virus in it's tracks, before you give it to someone else.

When I first came across this quite awhile ago, I spent like half an hour looking at this, finding the paradox and trying to figure it out. My conclusion was that the dude must be a time traveler. Great artwork by the way
