Sorry for such a late reply. I don't check in as often as I'd like. Thanks for the kind compliments. Yes, I did take drawing lessons growing up. I was traditionally trained meaning I started out with basic pencil and paper and was trained using watercolors, acrylics and oil paints. Once I knew that I wanted to become a professional concept artist I applied and got into art school.
Digital is great but definitely learn traditional mediums first if your looking for the best way to learn. Once you get the fundamentals down, the digital medium becomes a sandbox where you can explore endlessly and quickly. Just remember that your foundation and grasp of anatomy, drafting and color theory are the most important things you need to learn.
I primarily use Photoshop (almost exclusively at the moment). I still use Photoshop CS2 (its my favorite even though its an older version). Sometimes I use ArtRage and Painter as well. I hope this helps.
