Description I had to make this because I am truly overcome with gratitude for those men and women who have been ferociously fighting the wildfires here in Colorado. As I said on some previous deviations, I have not been directly effected by the fires but I have family in Colorado Springs, which was recently damaged in the Waldo Canyon fire.

Thank you to our firefighters!

I wrote what it says, and the photo is also mine.
Waldo Canyon 2012 what are you supposed to do
when the air you're trying to breathe
       is made of ash?
it slips down your throat and
      suffocates you while the taste
of destruction lingers on your tongue
and you know it'll never go away no matter
      how much water you drink
what are you supposed to do
when suddenly the world around you
and everything you've ever held onto
      is made of smoke?
black and white and gray, it billows
and wraps around your mind and smothers you
and you'll never think clearly again
what are you supposed to do
when the heat of the day you're living

I'm surprised there were even any fireworks this year, given the circumstances. First I've heard of a professional show being cancelled for any reason other than rain, to be honest.
