Strength(s): Intelligent, Decently Strong, Good Jumper
Weakness(es): Claustrophobic, Large Size limits travel, Fur soaks up water like a sponge, Minor Myco Flare Ups in the Spring.

Likes: Summer Nights, Heights, Positive Attention, Meat, Coffee Beans
Dislikes: Wet Fur, Tight Spaces, Dogs, Voles/Mice, Winter/Spring

Personality: Rat was a bright kid with big ambitions. As a youth, he was eccentric, and a show-off. As an adult buck, he's still a show-off, but his size makes it harder to keep up like he used to. Due to his Myco problems, Rat tends to spend wet or dreary days indoors, to avoid flare-ups. During the summer, as long as the weather is nice, he's usually outside assisting the Scavengers with their work, protectively on the look-out for danger, and quite enjoying his time in the fresh air. He's a social creature, and prefers the company of many others. He becomes lonely very easily as a result.

Rat's a bit biased and a bit of a jerk because of this, though. He has no patience for other rodents, particularly mice and voles, which he believes to be posers, like they wish they were rats, but are just too small and pathetic to be so great a creature. This biased opinion was bred into him by his parents, both unknown figures now, as they would've died when he was very young- likely from infections in the lungs, due to a family curse- Mycoplasm. He would've been raised by the Nanny rats in the pack, and thus, has little care for family values other rats might find important.

As a pup, he once got stuck in a bottle. This event led to his claustrophobia- while being surrounded by warm bodies is good, cold dirt or hard concrete are quite the opposite. At five months, he was chased and tossed around by a dog- he escaped unharmed, but has since hated dogs for this reason. Likewise, he hates humans because of their part in breeding dogs and making bottles, all that horrible stuff.

History: Born to a less than healthy pair of dumbos- mother was a double rex, father carried a single rex gene. Before he even grew fur, his mother passed from an infection in her lungs. His father followed shortly after, but was never truly in the picture to begin with. As such, Rat would've been raised by the Nannies of the pack. In time he would aspire to become a Brute, for no reason besides the thrill of the fight, if ever he got the chance. He would train under a strict mentor, who would die a week after seeing Rat ranked, taken by surprise by a cat. Though saddened by the loss, resilient as ever, Rat pushed on and remembers his fallen mentor fondly. He thrives to become as great a Brute as he can be, to make his mentor and his pack proud.

RP Example:
He could feel the vibrations in the ground long before he could hear the sound of galloping paws racing towards him. Rattus crouched lower in the grass he'd been exploring, seeds dropped in favor of having all four paws free- he'd be running soon. The beast was closing in. Five months old, Rattus had no idea the dangers that came with confronting a dog- but he was a Brute! Such large beasts would surely prove to be a threat to the pack! So, he waited until a big, black nose came into view and then he struck.

He felt his teeth sink into flesh with mild satisfaction, but suddenly, his world was turned into chaos. The dog reared its head with a thunderous yelp, Rat still attached to his nose as it flung itself about, trying to shake him off. Soon, the pain of being yanked around by one's head and neck became too much and Rat indeed went flying, into some shrubbery nearby. The dog, now angry and challenged, sought after him. Stunned and dazed, Rat didn't see it coming- the dog snatched him up by the skin on his back and flung the poor rodent into the air with a mighty toss of its head. Rat shrieked in terror as the world fell away, and the closed back in at such an incredible speed. He'd never fallen so far before- perhaps, if he hadn't been stunned, he'd have thought it fanciful, the view he'd had from so far up.

However, he would land in a heap of bruised muscles and tattered, wet fur, far from where the dog now ran about, called home by its human master. Rat lay still, stunned, gasping for breath against strained lungs and bruised ribs. Battered but not broken, he'd eventually wander back home, to his mentor and family, to be seen to by a Healer and given his rank on time, if only to reward his bravery and survival...

Thank you! I wanna breed or find a rat just like him someday. x3 I've been neck-deep in rat genetics for the last year trying to work out a game plan for it. XD

Very welcome!
Haha, well good luck with breeding! (or otherwise finding one) Rats have large litters so maybe you'll get lucky xD

x3 I've had one doe that gave me 17 in one litter. At one time, there were more than 40 rats in my apartment |D Thank god we had the money to get extra cages for the births and nurseries. We ended up keeping seven, bringing the total to 10 adults- 3 boys, the rest girls.

Now I just have 6 boys. All under a year old, but sadly from the feeder bin, so not breeding-safe.

Wow, 17 is a lot! I once had an accidental litter--didn't even know she was pregnant until she gave birth xD Ended up with 10 babies! So we went from 3 rats to 13 rats very quickly. It was our first time owning rats so I blame our incompetence for not realizing she was a female after being told she was a male

40 at one time feels so stressful! xD Just having 13 was enough for me.

I have 8 now, 6 boys and two girls, but they are starting to show their age, especially my eldest who is almost three.

My litters were accidental back then, too. I arranged to adopt two females online, because my girl Sophie lost her cagemate and was lonely, and when I got there, they informed me that they had a male brought back the night before- the oldest female's son, the second female's brother, littermates. Anyway, they were desperate not to keep any alone, so they asked if I'd take the whole cage of 'em. All three, all together, and sure enough, I brought the three home and set up the boy in the old cage, and since the new one was larger, kept the three girls in that (after good introductions of course).

A week later, I immediately noticed what I'd already been suspecting. Both girls were pregnant. Olivia, the mom, and Penny, the daughter, were then situated into their respective nurseries- two hamster cages, wire type, where they proceeded to pop out 17 (Olivia) and 15 (Penny) babies each. All were healthy, except one capped girl from Olivia's litter- she'd been dropped from the top of the cage, after mum tried to pry the door open, after the first cleaning to get the blood out... and thusly, broken jaw. I had to hand raise her, named her Woo. She lived to be 1.5 years, until the badly aligned break point resulted in an abscess. :< She was PTS after the vet told us that was all they could do- we didn't have rat-savvy vets.

But yeah, winded story cut short, my first two litters were a package deal and then some. |D Paso was surprisingly fertile for a Himmy Standard.

Longest lived lady was Sophie, who grew to be 3.25 years before a stroke took her.
Olivia ended up with mammary tumors, and the rest were PTS when their health began to fail later on, due to very, VERY bad lines. I suspect they came from the backyard breeders in the area. Likely born with problems I wasn't educated enough to spot at the time.

Now I have six beautiful bucks. Oldest to youngest, their names are Champion, ShyGuy, Salem, Edmund Dantes (Eddie), and my husband's pair, Bolt and Latte. Champ and Shy are about 9 months, Salem and Eddie 6 months and Bolt and Latte are about 4 months.

I had two more girls before them, but sadly, SDA killed them both. :< Valentine and Mist, beautifully bred dumbo sisters. Mist was blue!

Aw, poor little girl! Really cool that you managed to keep her alive for that long though!

Oh gosh, one of my black and white males named Felix died from a stroke as well--he was a little over 2 years I think? Anyways, it was sad because he was one of the originals of the first three we had brought home. He had just one little black spot in the middle of his belly, and one of the babies we had ended up looking exactly like him, so we named him Felix Jr. haha

Those are some cute names! I had a hamster named Bolt and my cats name is Salem ^u^
My bucks are named Henry, Marley, Felix Jr, PeeWee, Simon, & Hank, and my gals are Bella and Olive who are champagne colored (: They are cute little twins, only difference is Olive has speckles on her back and the white marking on her face is on the opposite side. Here's a baby pic! scontent-ord1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/h…

I've never had dumbos before, but my mom has voiced interest! I love the name Valentine for a rat, super cute!
