Because there's always that one other person who needs you, whether it's acknowledged or not.

She's the softness he needs, the bit of humanity to let him know he's not just a beast; not just a tool to Aizen. He looks at her and instead of seeing the cold emptiness of Aizen's stare, her eyes are hopeful and gentle and reverent--and for just a moment, Grimmjow thinks that maybe he doesn't really need a world of hollows at his feet to feel like the King.
And she needs his strength, for despite all of his roughness, she needs that irritation, the fear, the anger he invokes in her to distract her from her ultimate loneliness and fear of losing everything she holds dear. He keeps her on her toes, because if she fell back down to her own devices, she would cease to be herself. Orihime pushes these thoughts to the back of her mind, Grimmjow pushes these ideas to the recesses of his thoughts. She is optimistic, enough for him. He is pessimistic, enough for her. She is grateful, and so she does not let things change.
For now.

One day she will tell him that she knows. Maybe.

Ahem.

I really like the two of them; and while this piece is horrible and not worth any explanation aside from 'I was bored and it was late and I can't draw dudes', I actually don't hate it completely.
I wanted it to look more like they were leaning against two sides of a wall--almost something as a companion to that little Ficlet I did [here] but it didn't turn out that way. So instead here we have an angelic Orihime and a not battle torn but still slightly unsettling Grimmjow.
He was probably taking out his pent-up emotional frustration out on Menos in the forest.
Shh.

I might do something with this.
I don't want it to turn out like my latest scrap though. DX So we'll see.
