Description This is my favorite cat pose. I wish I could catch this moment with my cat. The model was found with google.

I was trying to test my newly acquired Kuretake brush desk fountain pen no. 8, shipped from Japan. Then I wowed at its expressive varying line-thickness and carried away to finish the drawing. After finished, I realized the base pencil sketch was done carelessly. Still, the pen was amazing. Also, I have used up half the sumi ink cartridge that came with the pen.

I think you did a great job with the pen strokes, it really works well with the cat's fur.

Have you ever done calligraphy with those pens?

Thank you so much.  I also liked it. If you dip the tip at a water a bit, you can dilute the ink a bit for a moment. Brush pen is a great invention.

I did have a class to write Korean and Chinese letters in brush and india ink in elementary school, but it was wrote in very big size in knelt position. I have yet to write with this small brush pen. This brush pen was meant to write Japanese (or Asian) letters with angled turns and lines, but for me English has curves and circles not easy to control with soft brush. For English alphabets, I have a fountain pen with medium cursive stub nib. I guess people would use italic nib for that purpose.

I appreciate your comment.

You're welcome I could never get the hang of using my brush pen for drawing, but that water trick to dilute the ink is pretty neat!

I've played around in calligraphy with it, though for english letters I use a pilot parallel pen as well as an old fountain pen (it's a family heirloom but I forget the type). I'm pretty terrible at it but reading about these pens make me want to pick it up again :3

I found a guy doing calligraphy with brush pens. Brush Pen Calligraphy   I also tried little with my fountain pen with soft fine (flex nib) but it seems to need tedious lots of practice.

I checked pilot parallel pens and looks neat.  Perhaps you could learn to do it and use it in your fantasy project. Like for scripts written in magic scrolls, letters and summons. A family heirloom fountain pen? Sounds very special!

I'm so used to wide nibs that the brush pen just seems so free and fluid. I looked up flex nibs and they seem really practical compared to the parallel pen where the thickness depends on what angle you hold it. Though it does a pretty good job for that gothic-style text, like you said would be great for stuff like magic scrolls and letters you see in fantasy project!

Yeah, it's an old fountain pen from Germany belonging to my grandfather. To be honest I only really used it once, I think I'll go find where it's been packed away somewhere!
