Saw a video of *kidchan speedpainting on the wacom website and it made me want to try something like that too. :0Speedpait vid here --> [link]
This took roughly 2 hours, not too bad on time? *shrugs*
But I do like how it turned out so I'm submitting it ((and using it as my new icon. :I ))
I wouldn't mind drawing more of these, great practice~
Btw, I did not come up with most of these colors, I stole it from a japanese artist's picture. 8I *eyedropper tool*

Love the choice of colours, even though you "stole" them XD haha. There's no such thing as stealing colours! ^^ It just gives you great practice.
Look at that shirt for example, it looks great with blue shadows and orange reflections.
The fact that the outline is brown makes the picture look even more soft and warm. Gives me a nice feeling ^^
Don't know if I should give any crits, but I'll do anyway. XD Just small things.
Like the too big gap between the nose and the mouth. Looks a little bit strange. And the hair could use some more highlights, to make it more alive!
Other than that; excellent! ^^ Good thing you made his shoulders broad. Because a common mistake is to accidentally make the shoulders too slender on a guy.

Though about his shirt, it's got orange in it cuz I just
colored his shirt in on the 'sketch' and then overlayed it with the actual colors. Something like that. xD
Yeh, I thought there some something up with his mouch now,
but it's not buggin me soooo much that I have to fix it. :B
But ja, I'll look out for that next time.
Oh and Highlights! well actually, the light color there on his hair is supposed to be the highlight...
Just that I kinda...used too much of it. XD;;; Harr.

I like the colours mix shown there, it makes the shading much richer than just darker versions of the base colours. He has a sweet expression, too.

Yeah, I think in the one I was watching she was using Painter...or Open Canvas. :0
But when studying someone else's work, you have to pay attention to tecnique rather then the program. :d
And so, I was just playing and replaying that video and following along with this.
Hopefully I can get enough practice to do it without reference some day. xDD

well, first off, I use PhotoshopCS2.
The brush setting is different depending on the PS version...
Anyhow, I'll just assume you have a pen tablet. :d

But here's a bit more for you, there's two settings once you click on "other dynamics" so be sure to put both on "pen pressure" and you're all good!

Heh, the lit edges are cuz I did the sketch in that bright orange color then went over with the darker color. :d
