In a naive way it is rather adorable, yet somehow rather... flat. If we are to consider the pencils symbolizing people, then what is the purpose of the shavings? Simply to add texture? Overall it is a cute concept, but perhaps a little overused as a theme. Certainly people like it, and if its purpose is for people to like it and not much else, I suppose all's been achieved.
