a little present for someone i know :3 : Thomas and Martha Jefferson

-
so now, a little bit of history and about this couple :

Throughout their almost eleven-year marriage, the Jeffersons appeared to have been deeply devoted to each other, sharing common passion for music, literature and a mutual suport.
On 1782, Ms. Jefferson’s health took a turn to the worse, and Martha died on September 6, a few months after the birth of her last child. Jefferson was so distraught, he did not remarry and remained a widower for the rest of his life, as he promised to his wife.
He was inconsolable in his loss and “was led from the room almost in a state of insensibility by his sister Mrs. Carr, who, with great difficulty, got him into his library where he fainted, and remained so long insensible that they feared he would never revive.” After the funeral, he withdrew to his room for three weeks. Afterward he spent hours riding horseback alone around Monticello. His daughter Martha wrote, “In those melancholy rambles I was his constant companion, a solitary witness to many a violent burst of grief.”
Not until mid-October did Jefferson begin to resume a normal life when he wrote, “emerging from that stupor of mind which had rendered me as dead to the world as was she whose loss occasioned it.”(…)“All my plans of comfort and happiness were reversed by a single event…”
He carried a folded piece of paper with her handwriting with him the rest of his life along with a lock of her hair.

How sweet. You illustrated this really beautifully. The expertly done positioning, lovely color work, and gorgeous lighting all collectively effectively work to portray the heartrending emotion of the moment, and also convey a sense of the couple's closeness and the comfort they find in one another's embrace. A very gracefully depicted scene. Excellent piece!

well, i don't romanticized his relationship with Sally at all.
it started when she was what? 14 years old? and he probably raped her... so

I have a historical coloring book in the 90% stage. It originally was to be a team effort, but I could never get the team working in the same direction. I finally started an outline, so I had an idea of the drawings needed. The team basically told me the outline was the right words.

Don't sell your words short. Your descriptions are great. You may already know the writer...look in the mirror.

Write in your native langauge from the heart. Once you are happy with the feelings of the words, you can get help with any translation you need.

This is beautiful but ... you only speak of her death. Why aren't you remembering they're lifetime together?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

nami64 In reply to Yaegiri [2013-01-03 19:51:06 +0000 UTC]

because we know so little about them, except that they were very happy.
Thomas destroyed everything after her death so... it's very difficult to know in fact

Oh my god, this is beautiful. You can see the love radiating out of them and you don't even see their faces. I thought you were from France(I could be totally wrong on that) what led you to the Jefferson's?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

nami64 In reply to VikingMongolGirl [2012-08-31 15:56:45 +0000 UTC]

i watched the mini-serie John Adams by HBO, and Thomas Jefferson was perfectly portrayed by Stephen Dillane, he very intrigued me so i wanted to learn more about him because there, in France, we don't learn a lot about America's history (we have already enough with ours LOL)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

VikingMongolGirl In reply to nami64 [2012-08-31 22:34:44 +0000 UTC]

I;ve seen parts of that series and you're right, it is amazing. and, we don't really learn much about America's history in our school's unless you choose that time period in college. And even then, it is often overlooked because it is badly taught in grade and secondary schools. Thanks for replying
