I really needed a break from the huge cetacean poster (Sperm whale wrinkles will make you go crazy) and BritishViper provided just that for me. This painting is based on a gorgeous painting of hers and as such is also dedicated to her. See Faust's original here:


I had so much fun painting this, it has been some time again since I last did a really free piece. Decided to flip the canvas in the end as I preferred the painting that way. I hope all of you enjoy viewing!

This is really beautiful! I love the power and sense of movement as the Orca breaches, and the contrast between dark and light. I also really enjoy seeing the different interpretations you and Prince-Petrichor put on this scene.

Yes, you probably do! I use the same "flukes-in-florida" username on Tumblr as well. In fact, last November I had contacted you on Tumblr for some tips on digitally painting dolphins underwater (though I may have been using a different username back then), and I thought I might mention once again that the information you shared with me in your "Tips For Painting Underwater Scenes & Dolphins" post has been very helpful and my art skills have greatly improved since then, thanks to the help you gave me.

I wouldn't call this flawless (nothing is) but I'm very happy you enjoy this so much, and I'm still really fond of it too Sadly I haven't had time to do any full paintings recently with my mysticete commission taking up all my time, but I've finished it so hopefully soon I'll get round to another real painting again

went to Eden and whale watched for whole trip the hump back whales were heading back to Antarctica with their new born babies i had finished my holiday on the 5th nov and heard a week later they saw killer whales look up Eden in the history of whaling Killer whales used to help the whalers hunt whales we don't hunt whales to kill anymore only to watch them pass by
