Description
Colorado Springs, 1878
From Laramie to Tombstone. From Fort Worth to San Francisco. It’s a big territory, and more than a man can handle. It takes a woman. Nine, to be precise; ten counting their dinosaur, but he’s male. These extraordinary women have led extraordinary lives, refusing to submit to, or be shoved aside, by men. Now, they deal with extraordinary events. Meet the League of Extraordinary Ladies:
Sheriff Stella Bronski. Texas Ranger turned Pinkerton Agent turned sheriff, her detective skills are unmatched in the West. If she can’t figure it out, it isn’t worth figuring out.
Mrs. Katherine Lawson. The former bordello madame is the best fencer west of the Mississippi, with either a foil or a saber. A mistress of seduction and espionage, “Mrs.” Lawson often gets people to talk when other methods fail.
Lady Rebecca Windgale. The English school teacher is a walking encyclopedia, with a photographic memory and proficiency in twelve languages. A genuine noblewoman and industrial heiress, she is wealthy and funds the League’s operations, especially Dr. Roberts’ inventions.
Dr. Candace Roberts. Armed with three degrees, and a personal friend of Thomas Edison, the scientist and inventor can build or destroy anything known or unknown. She is also an exquisite chemist and can concoct explosives from saloon drinks.
Marshal Aura Lockhaven. An expert in the occult, and a practicing witch herself, the U.S. Marshal is friend, or foe, to the “weird folk” of the West. She leads the League on behalf of, and answers only to, U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes.
Tralfaz. Marshal Lockhaven’s “pet” deinonychus, although he claims all of the ladies. He puts the chomp on anyone who messes with the League.
Miss Viona Hill. A gambler more renowned than Doc Holliday, Miss Hill is also a much better shot than he is with either a pistol or rifle. Her only competitor with cards or guns is herself.
Senpai Yumiko Nakamoto. The Japanese immigrant is an expert in several martial arts and Samurai swordplay, qualifying as a female Ronin. Known as the Tigress, stealth is her specialty.
Sgt. Jennifer Gardner. Marshal Lockhaven recruited her for precisely the reason the U.S. Cavalry was about to court-martial her. “Sarge” is a master of disguise (the Army thought she was a man), safe-cracker, lock-pick, and escape artist.
Madame Barocca Alves. The New Orleans Creole was Marie Laveau’s disciple, and is a high priestess in Voodoo. A psychic, she handles spirits the League encounters and helps Marshal Lockhaven with involved rituals.
The League is about to board Dr. Roberts’ horseless carriage and head south to Lincoln County, in the New Mexico Territory. Marshal Lockhaven heard reports that Lawrence Murphy and James Dolan sold their souls to Satan in order to raise an army of the Undead and win the range war against John Chisum and John Tunstall. She isn't sure her informant, Billy Bonney, is reliable, but the kid seemed terrified. The Extraordinary Ladies will investigate. It’s what they do.
Expanding the Weird West concept to include a few of Aura’s friends.

I approached the League from the standpoint that their “powers” are all skill-based. Some of the Ladies’ skills and backstories fit their contemporary OC stories. Stella is a sheriff, Scarlet Gravity an heiress, and with her education and intelligence, Duster is a shoe-in for the inventor role. Others don’t quite mesh as nicely. Barocca’s darker complexion and Latina name fit perfectly for a Louisiana Creole, which begged Voodoo. Viona just struck me as the ideal gambler and gunslinger. She was also the first OC I chose for the League, and I thought Aura needed a markswoman. And she rocks a corset and fishnets. Japanese and cat-like Tora just seemed right for a Ronin, even if she isn’t feline. I wanted a master of disguise, who is a bit of a criminal, and wanted to put a Civil War kepi on someone. Sky-Belle was sitting there looking all cute and sweet, so she got the nod. As for Ms. Amazing as a madame … uh … she fill out that dress nicely. Yeah. Hey, someone had to be the madame! I ran out of concepts and clothes, so the League had to stop at nine members.
Required legal mumbo jumbo: This is a parody of Alan Moore’s League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
