Description
My latest cover illustration for 'Le Cabaret Vert', a collection of short stories written by my good friend Estelle Valls de Gomis. The collection will be out soon in France from Lokomodo Editions [link] .Estelle's beautiful stories are about vampires and decadent dandies and ancient ages, written in a style that suggests the atmosphere of the books by the great writers from the XIX century. Very inspiring!
Technique: markers, soft pastels, colored pencils.
Size: about 27x41cm

She looks so blissful despite, or because of, her situation; long tresses of hair spread out, swathed in luxurious blue, eyes blank in ecstasy and lifelessness...haunting and beautiful.

I am amazed by the amount of detail you are able to pack into each piece- especially your backgrounds! I love the sloping hill in the background and the leaves being blown from the tree; there is so much movement and it really brings the piece to life!
Lovely shadows on the neck, too. They really pop against the paleness of her chest and bring your eyes right to the blood marks. It throws you into the story and makes you want to know what happened.

Oh, so this is the final result!!
The first thing that came to my mind when I saw it was... Breathing. First because of the blue color which makes it all look so spacious, light, and delicate. Like I was standing in a window open to a frosty morning. And then the horizon that is not covered with anything...
Pictures like yours will fit the stories well, I believe.

Mah, forse erano influenzati dal film che e' appena uscito...o forse pensavano che i capelli della ragazza fossero molto piu' lunghi...
Quanto a me, mi ricordavo vagamente di aver visto una porticina ed una specie di hortus conclusus nello schizzo iniziale e quindi mi aspettavo luci colori molto diversi. E' stata una sorpresa piacevole, comunque...
PS: confesso che la coppia nel tuo disegno mi ha fatto pensare,di primo achito, a Kathrine e Hitcliff di Cime tempestose...probabilmente perche' ho appena finito di leggere il libro!
