Beautiful capture!
As for the species, I think this could likely be a four-spot orb-weaver (Araneus quadratus). They can differ quite a bit in color, but the image on wikipedia comes pretty close: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Araneus_…
Anyway, I'm not an expert (I had to look it up in a book), so if anyone knows better, feel free to correct me.

I've only been serious about macro photography of insects and spiders for a short time, but when I started out I wished someone helped me identify what I had photographed. Now that I've got a nifty little pocketbook about spiders it's much easier to identify the most common species (or get a general idea of what I'm looking at), so when I can easily help someone else out I'll gladly do it!
