Description Just finished today - this is the Revell 1/48 A-10A Thunderbolt II, most commonly known as the Warthog.  This was originally a Monogram kit, and was indeed a beast to put together.  The fit is terrible, especially the wings to the fuselage.  There is a ton of superglue between the seams, and you pretty much obliterate the raised detail, panel lines sanding it out.

The decals are from Print Scale, for a fantastic 74th Fighter Squadron, 23rd Wing aircraft (the original Flying Tigers from WWII squadron, circa 2002.  I also took a few weapons from the Hasegawa Weapons Set 2.  I also discovered that it's hard to find the light grey color on the wings and underside - the closest match was Humbrol #166, Satin light grey.

Although this was a challenging build, I really like how it turned out.  The A-10 is a big aircraft!  I'm giving this one to my son Matthew, who is a cadet in the University of Virginia Air Force ROTC unit.  The lad is sort of following in his Dad's footsteps, I was a Midshipman in a Navy ROTC unit in college more years ago than I care to count!

Nice!

If I ever get around to another A-10 model, I wanna do one of the "Snow Hog” in experimental Arctic camo. Quite the looker.

Faved!

The two-tone grey one is definitely pretty easy to paint.  The arctic camo one would definitely look cool!

Wonderful a/c.  I believe the only a/c with more hardpoints than the A-10 was the A-1.  I built one of these back in the early 1990s and gave it to our local AF recruiter.  It was the best build I've ever done on a model.  I can't remember who the manufacturer was but, it was one of very few a/c models that went together with almost no problems.

I learned that the AD-5 Skyraider could carry more ordnance - about 17,000 pounds!

I thought that the 'hog was Compass Greys, Humbrol 127 and 128.

Well, my quote was the values given in the Tamiya and Airfix kits.

No problem. I actually tend to look at the Revell colours, work out what they should be, then select Humbrol, Gunze or Tamiya accordingly: If I was in the USA I'd be using Testors rather than Humbrol, but that's a question of availability.

Yea well if you remember i did the Revell kit in a diorama and i used the Verlinden resin and photoetch update set on it and it was a pain in the butt build to say the least but the end result was really satisfying.
