An alternate history where the North American continent is divided into 6 sovereign nations.
The split from our timeline began with the foundation of the Republic of Texas, where after the Mexican-American War then president Anson Jones declined the United States's offer to join the Union as a state.
Then the California Republic, later the Pacific States of America, managed to solidify thanks to intervention from the Republic of Texas, where it later claimed the territoried of Oregon and Washington.
During the next decade a treaty was reached with the Lakota and Sioux tribes with the establishment of the Free State of Dakota in an attempt to ease tensions between settlers and natives. Others tribes fled to this state as their lands were taken.
It was the Civil War that nailed the final nail in the coffin of a united America with a Confederate victory over the Union at Gettysburg. With the resources of the Union stretched thin, this allowed the states within the Rocky Mountains to break away unchallenged.
