Saltwater etching. I coated the head of the hammer with fingernail polish, scratched in the design, then put it in a tub of salt water with an electric charge.

Good idea, I keep it in a corner of my brain ! By electric charge, what do you mean ? Batteries plugged, or just submerged ?

I used a battery charger. Youtube has lots of videos on saltwater etching. It's pretty simple.

how was traditional made ?....idk in the old times people had batteries .....maybe used the power of thunder ? .....
Does it work to put electric unwired plug in a bucket of water (NSFW of course)...but does it work ?
