My thoughts on Bandits attacking
'hay, that guy looks like he has neat weapons and armor, let's mug him!'
moments later, they ether get sliced up or even their heads chopped off. and get looted.
as for me, it's just another day in Skyrim. doing quests, slicing bandits for their gold and picklocks, and other goodies they may have useful.

If you play on master difficulty and with character without proper armour like a mage, they can prove quite a challenge if suprised.
