Description I started this before the last semester for school started and was a few hours away from finishing it. It already feels weird for it to not be staring at me from my easel. This started out as a personal project to practice my tones in charcoal since it's been like over a year and also because I love this movie with both characters of Frankenstein and his monster. But this piece will now be turned into a postcard format to sell to raise money for my class' vernissage. I hope I can display him eventually in my booth in the exhibit but I'm not sure if that's really of my own decision. This will look different in the postcard format probably but I don't know the dimensions yet (maybe 4X6 inches?). For future ideas for postcards, I'll probably do at least a couple more universal monsters. I haven't decided on who yet.

Done in Charcoal both black and white and white pastel. Completed in May 2017.

"I haven't decided on who yet."

If you don't mind a suggestion, and unless you've already begun your next piece, and speaking only for myself...it's always nice to see the Creature from the Black Lagoon. That's the only classic Universal Monster movie I watched multiple times, and the Gill-Man never did show up again in the later colorized movies like The Mummy, Dracula, and The Monster did.

I'll bet that's why your Monster looks so sad here. He never got a chance to fight the Gill-Man.

I do have plans to do the Gill-Man eventually. You are right that he doesn't get as much love as the others, maybe because he came much later, I don't know. Might be interesting and appropriate if I did it in watercolour. His entire design is great so I probably won't do a portrait.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will hopefully make you proud

That turned out very nice. The practice was totally worth it. Β Β Charcoal is one of the mediums you've been using the longest, right? It's gotten quite good.Β Β

Thanks Come to think of it, I haven't used charcoal that much, I know it has been one of the first ones I've used since being in school. Like I'm including Champlain almost 10 years ago. But I've probably used pencil the longest even though I do prefer charcoal a bit more.
