Ok here are an idea i have been thinking about, they are characters from a Sonic sequel to Sonic 2006.

These are the Dra-Gons of Soleanna (dray-gones). Three powerful ancient creatures orginally created by a society of Soleannians who believed that Solaris would be a terrible being that would bring forth the end of the world. So they decided to harness the power of dragons using the Emeralds of Chaos. They also believed that these three were the only beings capable of defeating Solaris because of their connection with the Emeralds of Chaos.

The leader of the Dra-Gons, Wingos (or Windblade, the new name he takes on), a pale green wind dragon. He was fast and quite intelligent. But ironically has a problem with flying and is unable to sustain flight for more than a few seconds... even with his large wing span. A tad arrogant at times but for the most part wanted to protect his kind.

Next was Aquas a light blue water dragon. Magically inclined, she had the power to control water, ice, and steam. All 3 phases of water. She was very skilled with her powers and used her powers to give speed almost as fast as Windblade (Wingos) but if overused she would become weak and unable to battle. She can also fly very well.

Lastly theres Dragos, the black dragon. He has the power of earth which gives him great strength. Dragos is considered the eldest of the Dra-gons because of his big brother type nature... Dragos has a dark side but also a very playful side as well. He loves humans and hates humans at the same time.

The 3 when created were intended to defeat Solaris if he was ever to come to power. Their connection with the emeralds gave them abilities beyond what they can normally do. With the power of the Emeralds 1 of the 3 could absorbs the powers of the other two making that 1 Dra-Gon a Dragon god by combining and multiplying thier abilities into the 1 Dra-Gon. The Soleannians believed that this wouldnt be an issue as they would be in control of this Dragon God so no threat would ever be posed to the Humans.

After they came to be, the Dra-Gons loved the new world with humans and life itself. After some time they started to wonder why there were no other dragons around. They then see a dragon killed by humans. This dragon was different from them it was large and powerful and could breath fire. They were shocked by what the humans did to the dragon. Therefore they abandoned thier human creators and the Human world and went out on thier own. This was the first time that Dragos's dark side appeared. He came up with an idea to destroy all humans as they have destoryed all dragons. He wanted to use the Emeralds to do this but was unable to as no one knew where they were now.

Dragos convinces the others to attack thier creators and all of Soleanna. With the emeralds gone the Humans were unable to control or stop thier attack. They did however use another power to incase the Dra-Gons in stone for 3000 yrs. They used the Power of Iblis. At the end of which time they would be freed. They then buried the stone statues deep within Soleanna. What they didnt realize is that the Dra-gons were turned to stone but they were still alive and able to experience everything. Unable to sleep, move, and unable to even close thier eyes all they could concentrate on his the destruction of Soleanna and every living thing on the planet. The time spent in the cave drove them all completely insane. Then the day came that the spell wore off. And they were able to move again.

The world was not prepared for these beings as the Soleannians took all precautions to stop all knowledge of the Dra-Gons.

EDIT: The final boss would be Dragos after he absorbs the power of the emeralds AND his bretherine...Tetra-Dragos. He turns into a full on dragon with control over all four elements. He had hidden the fact that not only could he control earth but he also could breathe fire. Then since he took Wingos' wind element and Aquas' water element he had all four elementals. He has 7 wings each one containing the power of its respective emerald. Sonic Knuckles Shadow and Wingos use the remaining power of the Emeralds to take him down. He is thusly killed. Wingos and Aquas are allowed to stay as when Dragos absorbed thier powers by force he also took the darkness that had formed within them over the 3 millinea they were statues.
