I wouldn't go as far as to say "fetishizing". If anything, it wasn't animated graphically enough to accurately portray what "real" rape actually is.

I can emphathize where you're coming from, but, let's be honest here; those who know what rape is and how bad it is should EASILY be able to tell what emotions they would feel towards it.

For me, whenever I saw it on screen I HATED every moment of it and I felt like I wanted to protect the victims from it, but I knew I couldn't.

Never once did I think, "Oh! This scene is definitely my kind of kink!"

Wouldn't you say that the using the word "fetishize" is kinda misleading for the person using it?

Most people can obviously see what the writer was going for in those scenes. He wanted you to feel hatred, sadness, and many other powerfull emotions that associate with those. I'm pretty sure they didn't want people to feel "hot'n bothered" by it.

I won't personally blame you for thinking that way. Society now-a-days seems to skew that santity of sex as something that should be treated nonchalant and easily glorified in a generally perverse light.

I don't blame you for thinking that way about such scenes. I blame the world as a whole for twisting it.

We know rape is bad and I personally will never view any form of it as fetishized in any way.

I have to agree. They did not animate it pornographically at all. They didn't even show anything but her face if I remember correctly. I thought it was done well creating the boundary that rape is not okay, and this was very traumatic. I've uh... seen a lot of hentai. And this wasn't like that at all.

However, this character and his childhood friend do feel bland and fetishized. While the elf and priestess feel real, these characters feel like titties and nothing much else. Her (sword maiden) sexuality towards Goblin Slayer for no reason left me with little hope for her, though. Hopefully with a little more story, this will change.

We get a pretty damn good view of her hips, side boob, arched back and butt in the air, the last right when the purportedly underage girl gets raped. Not to mention how pretty much every woman in the series, going by the manga especially, is depicted as these super hot, sexually attractive maidens and being posed in a manner to show off all their sexual features like it was someone's rape fetish pornography. Or how it goes from the first episode with such a super grim premise, only for the second episode to just be all "hey look, titties!"

Not helped by pretty much all the characters, aside from the eponymous protagonist, being borderline retarded. How can people in this world not know how dangerous goblins are? Or when adventurers couldn't be bothered to defend the town they were in themselves from an encroaching horde because it wouldn't pay well enough. What? Were they planning on just sitting back and boozing it up while the town is set ablaze and expect the littler buggers to not break into the guild house and gank them?

Deconstruction or not, you don't use videogame logic in telling a story.

I really have to disagree with the first scene being sexualized. But I will agree with you that after that, it did lose the darkness and the entire premise that scene set us up for, therefore losing the meaning and setting up what feels like a lot of sexualization. The female cast is kind of reduced to boobs. Almost every female character is in love with Goblin Slayer and has a boob shot every three seconds. The rape scene lost every bit of meaning and therefore, I can see it being super offensive.

As for the video game logic thing, it's very obvious to me that this was heavily inspired by Dungeons and Dragons and tabletop games, so I see a lot of that.

Whether or not it is inspired by D&D, you still don't use actual game-mechanics in a narrative. The point behind D&D is that you're playing out a story, where the dice simply decide what happens based on multipliers and luck, i.e. makes it more hectic, like real life. The characters in that narrative don't know that they're in a game; to them it is reality and they perceive the world pretty much how we're meant to, only theirs is a world of monsters, dragons and mysticism.

Honestly, I think that Sword Maiden feels strangely attracted to Goblin Slayer only because she probably saw a similar tortured soul within him and an undying rage towards Goblins.

She does have serious mental trauma that continuously plagues her everyday. Maybe his hatred towards goblins makes her feel so sort of twisted comfort.
