mhhh...I don't really like that colouring style at all, I guess. Textures are nice, but I can't really see the link between the texture you're using and the thing you coloured. To the most part, I guess you could say it looks like it was painted on a rough surface, but considering the motive, that just doesn't really make any sense to me. For me the pic just looks like an unclean basic shading, sorry
Having seen the wonderful lineart of this piece, this colouring is very dissapointing to me. Or maybe this colouring style is just not that suited for your lineart. However, I like the lineart alone a lot better, especially the lion - great job on that
I find the background a bit dissappointing as well. Such a great motive and you give it no suitable background?? Not even something to stand on Is it just my distorted view or does Azrael's right foot seem a bit small compared to the other oO* Just the first thing I saw as the pic loaded since the pic is so huge btw, it's hard to enjoy the full composition at that size even with a 19'' screen O.O
Sorry for the load of critique...it's just that from seeing the lineart and your previous colourings I expected a lot more then that.

I'm happy that you liked the sketch. And I'm thankfull for critical comments as they are often more helpfull than those "Hey, this is great"-comments (although they make me happy very much, too ). As artist I always deal with the critique I get and sometimes I will see that people are right with what they are saying and sometimes I will not. This time I disagree:
Well... I trying new things and I love how this piece turned out. Maybe what you were expecting from me was exactly the same thing I always do: a nice coloring with either comic style or realistic shading and a background - something that makes the pic look like the characters were real in some way. But that was not what I wanted to do here. I wanted to create a picture that looks like a picture, not like a window through which you can watch someone or something. So there does not have to be a link between what I drew and how I coloured. If I drew a rose I would have done the exact same thing with it. That's also why I chose that background. For me it has the feel of some sort of mediterranean wall painting and that was exactly what I wanted!
About the foot: It may look bigger to you because the whole leg has a different pose from the other leg. Take a closer look and you will see (compare the position of the ankles and knees if you like)
About the size: my srceen is 15'' with 1024 x 768 and I don't have any problems with big images - to be honest I love them because I can see the details a whole lot better. And if I really like an image - and I usually use it as wallpaper then and small pics suck when it comes to make them a wp - then I save it and I resize it if I think the size is not right for me.
Well, I'm sorry if I disappointed you and if I did not do what you expected. But there are two things that are absolutely important to me when it comes to art: improvement and fun. And I get both of it by trying new things. Pencils, mechanical pencils, graphite pencils, Pierre Noire pencils, coloured pencils, aquarell colours, acrylic colours, water colours, chalk, coal, copic markers, Pit Artist pens, inking (with brush and inking pen), PC inking, PC colouring with and without ink, PC colouring with cel shading, with gradient shading, with realisitc shading, texture colouring, different filters or completely without filters, different brushes, pixel art, mix different techniques, use differnt techniques to achieve the same result, - I tried it all and there is soooooo much left for me to try. I really learned much about the different techniques and about what siuts me and what I don't like. And that's how I'll always go on. I'm much too excited about art not to do it. Some people may like the different results, some not - it will always be a matter oft taste. And although I'm really really happy when people like my art, the most impotant thing will always be that I myself like what I'm doing. I am.

That looks really cool, the texture is effective. It looks like you painted it in acrylics. I like your snowy avatar btw!

nice pic indeed, the texture you used make it look as it was painted on a wooden plate. However, it makes it also look flat IMHO, because you can see the 'veins' of the wood which, for example, go from Azrael's outer wing to his inner wing to your garg self's leg. I mean, they make the drawing look flat because your eye recognizes the pattern of the 'wooden veings' under the image so you understand that it's drawn on a flat surface. It's a bit hard to explain, but try to compare the dawing with and without textures. BTW shadows make the image look less 'flat, even if you're using textures.
maybe having the drawing look as it was made on a wooden plate is what you wanted to acheive, but there's another problem I'd point out: image programs use textures as they were 'tiles', therefore if you're using small textures the program will eventually 'repeat' the image until it covers the whole area. However, as you can see on your lion friend and on your wing, the texture was too small and you can see very well the border between the two 'tiles'. I know this problem very well because I used textures a lot for my lion king fan arts in the past. The best solution (besides using bigger textures) is to use the "clone" tool with a soft brush so that the parts you clone can merge well with the rest of the pic. In this way the 'border' between the two tiles will be almost invisible.
BTW the lion still looks like Disney but I can see that you're developing your own style
I hope this long comment will be useful ^_^
