Description Marius spirits his mortal apprentice to a dark and dangerous place just beyond Venice’s canals to show him the wicked price of preternatural existence. But it is a different reality that Amadeo perceives.

“Astonished and enthralled, I watched as my Master closed his smooth eyes, his golden eyelashes seeming silvery in the dimness, and I heard a low wet sound, barely audible but horribly suggestive of something, and that something had to be the man’s blood.

I was speechless. Fear, loathing, these things had no part in it. I was simply amazed. If I thought, I thought it was wondrous.”

That is so gorgeous! I love the expression on Armand's face and just the whole concept of him watching his master drink is so happy !! *Worships Anne Rice* I can't imagine how long this would have taken you ... eep!

Thanks!

I'm usually working on many different pieces at the same time ... so a few hours here a few hours there ... I really don't know.

I love these pictures so far I have favored all of them so I figured it was time to comment. They remind me of Video game characters you no like final fantasyX charcters. They're real great keep up the great work. I wish there was a Anne Rice video game. You could pick who you wanted to be and reinact there lives. I would so play that. P.S. I'm really glad almost all your pictures are of Amadeo and Marius. They're my favorite and not enough people draw them together.
LUVS!!!

Wow - I really envy your talent for 3D art. I've had a go - and it's sooo difficult. So I'm sticking to 2D... I love the way Armand is stood - kinda childlike - very fitting. And the light coming from the doorway's nice.

Thanks! I switched from painting to 3D just a couple years ago, thinking it was maybe more immediate, quicker and more forgiving. I was wrong, but got hooked anyway (lol).

Yeah, I got the same impression after doing a few lessons of it. I'd love to get into 3D but I just don't have the patience!

Good! The positions of the characters look good, the only thing that really is a bit wrong is the expression of the man in the chainmail. He does not look like he's being bitten.

NEONnyc In reply to Akuwizard [2006-10-17 17:51:27 +0000 UTC]

Good and observent point. Trying to convey how the victim is under the vampire's mesmerizing spell of calm at the moment of the realization of impending death that Rice writes so often of. Maybe I should have made it a bit more dramatic ...

Akuwizard In reply to NEONnyc [2006-10-17 18:19:30 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I haven't read the book. It makes a lot more sense now.
Still, from an artistic point of view, a dramatic approach looks better.

Wow
Just...wow

I've always thought how ironic it was that Marius spent so much time and energy refraining his instincts and feeling guilty for seducing Amadeo while Amadeo saw things from a totally different perspective...

Yeah, Marius did what he could to teach him, but the kid was just a devilish brat from the very start

Thanks so much for your comments.

another absolutely wondeful render!

I still have a problem with the textures you've used though.. they seem too.. grainy for me.

NEONnyc In reply to sereneworx [2006-10-16 18:47:40 +0000 UTC]

Thanks!

I think you got me on the textures this time ... wanted to go in and work both the textures and poses a bit more, but the scene file got corrupted (lost almost everything) ... and, well I was no longer inspired and just too lazy to rebuild it . Did what I could in postwork with the renders I already had.

NEONnyc In reply to eviloatmeal [2006-10-16 21:03:27 +0000 UTC]

I clicked the prop, the prop loaded, I added a bit of color to match the rest of the scene, I added a texture map and adjusted its intensity, I rendered to see what it looked like ... "close enough for rock 'n' roll," I said. Total time = 3 minutes. I told you ... trust me.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

eviloatmeal In reply to NEONnyc [2006-10-17 07:23:56 +0000 UTC]

Well you still had to make the prop, or did you use a premade? cause then you're cheating

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

NEONnyc In reply to eviloatmeal [2006-10-17 12:57:34 +0000 UTC]

I only make props when I absolutely have to ... I also admit to not having manufactured my own paints, pencils or paper and canvas. And it's been a real long time since I chased down a sable or horse in order to make a brush. Art has a long dark history of cheating - collage, Dada (Ready Mades), etc ... and it's rumored that many of the Renaissance masters used mirrors and projection devices and then traced things to achieve such exacting realism. So I'm just being a traditionalist.
