I played with the scan (contrast, brightness, colors, etc) before I originally posted it, but I had no idea what I was doing and everything I tried made it look dumb, lol!
Lucky for me I work at a mobile ad company, and we have digital artists on staff. One of them was nice enough to show me what to do. I wish I'd asked him months ago.

That's amazing! Really good. the detail is superb.
I drew the same eye in biro, and have to say yours is far better

Thank you, Seb. I think your biro rendition is quite good. I have not ventured into the world of biro yet... it seems like a skillful undertaking, and I applaud how well your eye came out!

I absolutely love them. Their quality puts the Prismacolor to shame IMO.
1. the cores are a little harder, so they don't wear down as fast, and therefore require less sharpening and last longer
2. due to the cores being a little harder, they don't break as easily... I found with Prismacolors that the cores were always broken several times inside the wood, and as I would sharpen them, the broken bit of core would just fall out
3. the cores are always center-drilled... Prismacolor would often be off-center, causing issues with sharpening
4. the cores are secured to the wood, and the wood is closed at the back/top of the pencil... I had several Prismacolor pencils with loose cores that would just slide out the back of the pencil as soon as I pressed down
5. it might just be my imagination, but the Lyras seem to burnish and blend more smoothly and easily than the Prismacolors.
Lyra is a little more difficult to find (at least for me), and often more costly once you do find them, but the difference in price is small enough to be warranted by the better quality. I highly recommend them, and I only use Prismacolor now when I do not have, and cannot find, the corresponding shade/color in Lyra.

You're so welcome!
I mostly get them at a local art store, Rhino Art Supply. But their color choices are pretty limited for Lyra and so I also go to a Blick Art Supply store in downtown San Diego.
You can also find them on Blick's website , but I usually need to pick out colors and start drawing that day or the next... I don't like to wait for shipping.
Good quality colored pencils can make a huge difference in the final product. The cheap pencils don't have as much pigment, and won't blend or burnish as well.
