Well, to be honest, Y2K did happened. As an IT guy, I can tell you what that was about, but in short, some old computer softwares were not designed to switch the century, which could lead to severe bugs.

Hey...it just meant that on Dec 31st 1999, the next day would be Jan 1st, 1900. Just because it would screw up every paycheck in the world didn't mean the end of the world. There was a time when computer memory - even DISK memory - was so expensive it was considered worth it to assume the "19" prefix - most programmers at that time assumed NONE of these packages would still be in use at the turn of the century.
