Fantastic portrayal!  Though I'm not familiar with the original anime (or, well, I'm assuming he's from an anime, by the style), the expression and posture do an excellent job of showing a cheery, confident, good-natured character.

The shading is superb, as is the texture of his Tegoshi's clothes.  I like how he's clearly backlit by the sun.

The colors and background combine to create a summery, innocent, wonderfully fresh aura.  I feel as if I can touch the tender green leaves, or the silky strands of his blonde hair.

My one suggestion would be to soften the outlining of his face.  Right now, the nose and especially the mouth are rather obviously delineated.  This makes his face seem almost cartoonish, while the rest of the piece is very realistic and natural---which I love!
