Eclipsa was crystallized by Rhombulus due to falling in love with a monster, and it stayed that way for 300 years before she met her future descendant Moon Butterfly. It wasn't until 36 years later she was freed and gained the sympathy of would-be-Queen Star Butterfly. It was long believed that Star and Eclipsa were not at all related to each other due to Luna Butterfly's magic spell that made everyone forget who Eclipsa was. This turned out to be a lie as it was revealed that Star's family was indeed royalty and thus related to Eclipsa, but she never knew that because she and her monster husband and baby daughter were killed in a septarsis sack during the War Of Worlds.
